The sword represent power, strength, and courage. In stories like Beowulf the one who holds the sword are soldiers, which are known to be tough and strong. Also, most of theses soldiers have courage because they have to face strong opponents like monsters or other tough soldiers. This symbol represent Beowulf as a character and the Anglo- Saxons as for what they believe for. Beowulf is know as this tough heroic character throughout the story. Willing to fight monsters like Grendel, showing that he has courage to fight such a creature. In Anglo-Saxons culture being brave or having courage and being strong is the right way to go in life. If you didn’t have any of theses trades you were living a bad life.
