Switching To Year-Round School

Summer vacation is important for students who want a break from school. School causes stress for many students who try their hardest to succeed in academics. Taking away the one thing students look forward to, summer time, is a punishment to all in the school system. Switching to year-round school would cause students’ interests to decrease dramatically within the first year. Year-round school should not be endorsed because students would have more freedom, their sleeping schedules would be more flexible, and they would have more time for summer jobs.
Having more freedom to hangout with friends has a great deal on students’ stress. By going out to the movies or simply having a sleepover, reduces stress and helps students have a more carefree

Each year, school districts are faced with a growing population of students. The issue with this is that many districts have a shortage of school facilities, and they are limited to the amount of money they can spend on each of these facilities. To handle this issue, school districts around the world have adopted a year-round school calendar to ensure they are using these existing school facilities to their full ability. Year-round schooling arranges the breaks differently, causing students to be in school all throughout the year, rather than having three months off in the summer. In addition to maximizing the use of the schools, year-round schooling improves student learning and saves money in the long run.…

In a year-round school, it may be hard to maintain a job or travel with family in the one month of summer that the school gives students as their summer break. Laura Kelsey, author of “Should You Give Up Summer Vacation” claims, “year-round schools have roughly the same number of vacation days as traditional school calendars” (Kelsey 28). The traditional school calendar gives students 3 months of summer vacation, allowing students and teachers a much needed break. Some would argue that those summer months are the downfall to losing some of the material taught in the previous year of school. However, Kelsey also states, “Learning doesn’t have to stop for kids on long summer breaks.…

The Benefits Year-Round Schooling Since the beginning of time, teaching and learning has been a detrimental part of what makes us able to innovate and experience the world around us. A form of schooling introduced in the late 1800’s and early 1900’s was a year round school system (Pedersen, "The History of School and Summer Vacation"). This system allowed for more days within the learning period and allotted for students to get more out of their education. Research from all the way back to a hundred years ago has shown that students tend to lose information and their footing during a traditional summer vacation (Fairchild, "Why and how communities should focus on summer learning."). The current system most public schools within the…

Should Florida attend year-round school? This question is of rising debate and there are many points to back each viewpoint up, but Florida shouldn’t attend year-round school because it is difficult to find childcare during breaks, and there is no concrete proof that students benefit positively from year-round school. Although students and teachers may be refreshed after the frequent breaks, they will lose a great deal of time reviewing and lose out on integral learning time. Florida students should not attend year-round schooling.…

Many have argued if Florida schools should switch to year-round school. Florida should not switch to year-round school because it will make attending after school activities difficult and would make it harder, on parents who have to work over the time that their children are off from school. Year-round school would allow students and teachers to have more stretched out breaks instead of one long summer, that may lead to summer slide. Changing to year-round school would make everything harder so Florida should stick with traditional and not switch to year-round. First of all, after school activities including sports, music and many more are a great way for students in the community to stay active and involved.…

Based on the text, “One meta-analysis of research from the University of Minnesota, published in 1999, found that 42 studies showed no positive impact from year-round school, while 27 studies showed a significant positive impact” Therefor year round schooling has no negative effects, but has shown traces of significantly positive effects. On the other hand, summer break causes things like the summer slide. A summer slide is when people forget things they learned during the summer vacation. If you have the summer slide, and have to review it during the upcoming school year, it wastes time that could be used for learning other things to get you ready and more prepared for next year, or you could have more time to review other…

School systems have always encountered trouble deciding whether or not to use a year-round education program. There have been studies on the effectiveness on this teaching schedule and most of the results are positive. Other investigations show that teachers themselves enjoy this schedule of learning since it allows them to interact with their students on a more continuous basis, and there is not a gap in curriculum due to summer break. However, students will still have time to rest and relax on the shorter breaks scattered throughout the year. One such study by Ballinger (1987) agrees that “students learn best by a continuous pattern of teaching, practice, reteaching, and more practice, until they finally grasp the concepts being taught”…

Children benefit from year round school because they are not in a hurry to cram everything they need to know for that year in just short nine to ten months. Teachers can slow their speed and actually teach students everything they need to know not just what they need for a test, which seems to be regular in many schools. Students will not forget the education that was taught, for they will not have summer vacation time to forget about school and what they learned from it. Cooper had done experiments on children loosing education while on summer break and his results are stunning, and cooper commented that “most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency in mathematical computation skills over the summer months”…
