1. I participated in the Community Connections pre fall program during my freshman year. I also attended the Encounter with Christ retreat during my freshman year. I attend mass every Sunday and am involved with volunteer services. In addition to working with the volunteer services office, I also do a large amount of service work with my sorority Theta Phi Alpha.…
The swimming pools, in “The Swimmer”, represent Neddie’s journey down the road to addiction and the consequences that his dependency has on his life and body. Neddie’s state of mind as he begins his addiction is described, “He had an inexplicable contempt for men who did not hurl themselves into pools. […] To be embraced and sustained by the light green water was less a pleasure, it seemed, than the resumption of a natural condition,” (Cheever, 777). Neddie describes the feeling that drinking alcohol gives him as though he is returning to some raw state of being. The swimming pools themselves are a man-made attempt to provide nature within a suburban setting that is lacking.…
For my mathematical exploration paper, I have decided to base it on the topic of swimming as it can be affiliated with many mathematical components. However, I was profoundly interested in determining the optimal kicking angle as it caught my recognition. As I further explored this topic, I decided to endeavour to connect a swimmer’s water movement with the quantity of water being pushed around against the flow. As a swimmer myself, I was greatly interested in determining the optimal angle to kick in order to enhance my swimming.…
I acquired knowledge and skills when I earned a spot on the swim team at Sarah E Goode STEM Academy. I have been waiting since my freshman year for my school to have a swim team. Then they finally got one my senior year. Even though I am not the best at sports, including swimming, I had to be on this team. I tried out and I barely made the team.…
6 months ago, I never would have imagined I’d be signing with the Assumption Swim Team. Shortly after I joined Executive Swim Club during sophomore year, I had a conversation with my new coach, Brian Crawford, about possible schools I could swim for in college. He advised me with many great options, but when he mentioned Assumption, I couldn’t take him seriously. I told him that I wasn’t of that caliber of swimming, but he refused. He simply told me to keep up the good work, because it would pay off in the end.…
Throughout high school, I have been involved in many activities. I started off with the STEM academy in my high school. In the STEM academy, we held special events that teach people, especially kids, about new experiments and science-related careers. I helped out the STEM academy by explaining people about the experiments, the purpose behind the experiments and cleaned or organized lab equipment. I was a part of the STEM academy for approximately three years in high school and I really enjoyed it because I knew I could make a difference in my community.…
I’ve always been a strong swimmer; I’ve always been determined and a believer, but I can't say I had ever thought about winning state. I was twelve years old in the summer of 2015, which turned out to be one of the most important and eventful summers of my life. I woke up on Thursday morning at 6:00, ready to start the first day of my state meet. The meet would take place at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Wisconsin; lasting a full four days, starting on Thursday and ending on Sunday. On Thursday I would swim one event, Friday one more, and on Saturday and Sunday I would have two each.…

A Few Essential Diet Tips for Triathletes While swimming requires you to spend considerable energy, triathlon calls for a lot of it because triathlon typically requires you to take part in three consecutive activities at a stretch. Cycling, running and swimming are three of the most vigorous exercises and performing them at one go requires an altogether different level of strength and endurance. Now, if you have already reached an advanced level in swimming and, therefore, want to venture into triathlon, it is necessary for you to start preparing well beforehand. This preparation consists of practicing regularly, working on the weak areas, exercising daily and most importantly, following a strict diet plan.…
Becoming a collegiate student athlete would make all the difference in my college experience and career following that. Firstly, I believe being surrounded by other people who have the same goals and drive for success as I do would only encourage me to push myself to my full potential. Also the joy playing soccer and performing well brings me would make a huge difference in keeping my on track with my studies alone. A dream and goal of mine for as long as I can remember has been to become a professional soccer player and i believe playing collegiate soccer is the next step in the pursuit of achieving that goal. Even if I fall short of playing professionally, having been a colligate athlete opens up new opportunities if I decide I want to pursue…
Hi, I’m that reckless teenage girl your mom and dad always told you would get you injured, the one that believes if they go over 100mph down that straightaway in Idaho there will be no consequences, the one that doesn’t listen to the “NO DIVING” warning on the side of the pool since ‘she knows how to swim’, and the one that doesn’t realize until she’s 17 years old that you can’t survive every injury you obtain. Speed is my weakness, if its quads, dirt bikes, cars, or bicycles I always want to go faster. A few years ago my family had multiple sport quads which I would go way faster than I ever should have in the space I was riding them in, (a little over three acres of wooded trails.) My dad and I decided to finish off the night by racing through one of the major loops that we have. As a super competitive person in sports I was flying through the trails, I came down the hill faster than I should have since there was a sharp corner at the end.…
First of all, I did not make the swim team. I was devastated when I found out. My usual self would have up and quit due to the failure, as I did with numerous other things. However, there was something different about this time. I remembered what coach had said after the tryouts: If you really love swimming and you don't make the team, keep swimming and try out again next year.…
Interact has given me the opportunity to utilize my skills and abilities. Because of this, my confidence increased and I became a more outspoken individual. Being exposed to different areas in my community allowed me to learn about the issues in the community. It expanded my field of perspective and maximized my vision for the world. Giving back to the community through volunteer opportunities from Interact has been a meaningful experience.…
At 14, swimming taught me to give just as much effort in meter 375 as I did in meter 1. Most importantly, swimming taught me that nothing special is accomplished without confidence. Quitting would leave a void in me, only to be filled with…
