The most iconic low-calorie sweetener Splenda started in 1976 when British researchers were looking for a way to blend laboratory chemicals with sucrose (sugar). They found a different compound made from sugar called sucralose. They found it to be really sweet and it was also low calorie. Splenda was put on shelves in 1992 and has sold over 100 million packets. The ingredients include Dextrose, Maltodextrin, and Sucralose (Splenda).
Sucralose which is the huge ingredient in Splenda is a zero-calorie artificial sweetener. Although it is from real sugar, there is a chemical process which replaces the hydrogen-oxygen with chlorine atoms. However, Splenda has performed over 100 scientific studies within the last 20 years on sucralose to see if it had effects on health conditions like cancer, birth defects, and growth and development; they have also been reviewed by the FDA and the World Health Organization and is found to be safe for all ages in any condition. Splenda is also used in many countries without warning labels because it lets people enjoy sweet and tasty meals if they are following a diet or weight loss program and does not have extreme health effects on the body (Splenda).
Splenda has been on the market for over 20 years and is expanding their brand with products like brown sugar sweetener for sweetening baked goodies, and liquid sweetener to customize any beverage. Although Dextrose, Maltodextrin, and Sucralose go through a chemical process there is no physical harm to the body because it is low calorie and has no known side effects due to the numerous studies and research done by Splenda with the help of the FDA and other food and safety authorities
