It all began when someone left the window open. Now you probably won't believe this cruel, unusual story, but it happened. I know. 2-year-old Misty Burdick was a weird and uninhabited child. She had black hair, brown eyes and a devious smile. Unlike her sister Annabelle, her twin, she had short blond hair and watery blue eyes, with a smile that felt like it could melt you heart. Misty loved music. If she was throwing a tantrum, music would stop her strait in her tracks. Even before she was born, whenever a song came on the radio, she would kick. He parents knew that, even before she was born, that she had a love for music. "You know" the mother would whisper, rubbing her stomach. "These little girls might even be on Broadway! "Then why isn't Annabelle crying?" the mother hollered "I don't know!" Tom whispered loudly "can you just open the window?!" He said frustrated even more. Then she opened the window letting in the New York breeze. Wind was hitting Misty's face. She stopped and whimpered. Tom turned to face Sarah. "See," he whispered proud.

Misty stopped and lightly shut her eyes. Tom, giving Sarah a look of excitement, tiptoed out of the room as to not wake little Misty. Sarah followed shutting the door lightly. Wind hitting Misty's face kept her quiet and cool. Annabelle, on the other side of the room, made a noise jolting Misty's eyes open. Misty, not crying, watched the wallpaper corners flap in the breeze. Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Misty's family lived in an old, small, beat-up house. In every room the wall paper was peeling or the wood floors were coming off. It sounded to her like music. She moved her little legs into a kicking motion, almost dancing. She reached her fists up high in the air almost grasping the bird-shaped wallpaper. Her crib squeaked. She stood hanging onto the sides.
"Hahahah" she laughed in excitement. Bouncing in her crib, she forced herself over the crib gate in hopes of catching the dancing birds. Three try's later and she had successfully gotten her whole body over. Her one hand hanging onto the sides of the window. The other still reaching out. Step by step she followed the birds on the windowsill. She stood, perhaps wondering what her next step was. The birds flew out the window. Misty

“Curbside Prophet” proclaimed the beat-up and torn cardboard sign beside the man whose appearance was only made tolerable by the fact that the sign was dirtier than he was. The red letters jumped off onto the street almost as a dare for the people in too-clean cars to look. At least, that’s how I took them as I sat, in my own too-clean car, right beside him.
