The main character defends his sanity after killing an old man. “True!-nervous-very, very dreadfully nervous I had been, and am; but why will you say that I am mad?”(Poe, p331). His reasoning for killing the old man is delusional and strange, he describes his motivation as fear of the old man's pale blue eye. Both take place in the same time period and both have an uneasy tone and mood about them. Both produced by authors/film producers who have a dark sense of style with all of their work. Tim Burton is known for his dark and creepy style throughout all of his famous works. Examples of these are Beetlejuice, Edward Scissorhands, and The Nightmare Before Christmas, which all show and display his dark, creepy style. Combining fantasy and horror, Tim Burton creates mysterious and dark styles throughout his works, similar to Poe. Poe also creates dark and creepy moods/tones in his pieces. As well as Burton, most of Poe’s pieces have a gothic and sinister style, having to do with death, love, insanity, and murder. Both authors/film producers are very similar in their dark and sinister writing
