It was around this time that the first people arrived in what is now Sweden. They were mainly hunters and fishermen. During the beginning of the “Iron Age”, the population of Sweden settled and agriculture became the main part of the society. Then, around eight hundred to one thousand fifty A.D, the Vikings came to settle in Sweden and made trading links with the Byzantine Empire, and Arab Kingdoms. Christianity did not reach Sweden until the ninth century, and the country was not converted until the eleventh century. Sweden continued to grow over many centuries and many different kings ruled. Between the nineteen hundreds and the nineteen thirties, Sweden became one of Europe largest industrial countries after world war two. Since world war one, Sweden has followed a policy of peace and neutrality in times of war. Although, Sweden did join the League of Nations in nineteen twenty, and the United Nations in nineteen forty six. One of the most famous is Drottingholm Palace. The palace is located in Sweden’s capital Stockholm and is the residence of the royal family. The Palace was built in the seventeenth century by Nicodemus Tessin. Another popular tourist location in Swedan is the Vasa museum. This museum is features the ship “The Vasa”, which sank in Stockholm in sixteen twenty eight. The ship was salvaged three hundred and thirty three years later. It is the world’s only preserved seventeenth century ship.
