Swag is a term heard far too often. I hear “Swag” on a daily basis, and that is because it is simply everywhere: in music, in day-to-day life, and even in sports. Rappers, athletes, and regular people alike use swag as a way of credibility. I, on the other hand, think the expression swag needs to come to an immediate end, and the reason for that is that there is an actual word that has the exact same connotation. That word is swagger. Swagger, unlike swag, could actually be found in the dictionary. While we all know that swag is a slang term used to shorten the word swagger, it really is not that hard to just say swagger. It would be such an enormous improvement if people substituted swagger for swag in conversation. So how does one define …show more content…
Athletes have to have swagger to be able to play their best. Swagger will help them play better, because they will believe in themselves more. Look at Deion Sanders and Cam Newton. Cam and Deion’s swagger is very apparent. Deion Sanders- also known as Primetime- was one of the most elusive players to ever play football. While watching him on the field someone could, and usually would, get the feeling that Deion thought that he was better than everyone else around him. It seems like that thought is what made Deion play so well, and the same could be said about Cam Newton. One can tell that Cam thinks he can make any throw, run wherever and whenever he wants, and win every single play. Cam and Deion are the type of players that nobody would like to play against. If playing against them, one is going to be forced to watch them celebration. Deion would do his world renowned high step and his constant dancing, and Cam does his superman imitating motion of tearing off his shirt. The celebrations will be frustrating every time they make even the smallest play for both players and fans. Cam Newton and Deon Sanders are the types of players that, even when they are losing, are always winning. It seems impossible to break Cam or Deion’s spirit, and that is what swagger is all

As the sun plummets to its end on a Friday evening, in a small town just north of the capital of Texas. Businesses become calm and streets become lifeless, as an entire community packs into a stadium anxious to see their team go into battle versus that week’s opponent. The level of excitement that has been accumulating all week, rings throughout the stadium as everyone longs for the opening kickoff to heal their Friday football fever. As a four year old I wasn’t able to realize that I was witnessing the greatest football team to ever come through Burnet High School, as they demolished every team that was brave enough to step in front of them week after week.…

Have you ever watched football on t.v and wondered if the players on each team should get paid if you do not just set there and think about the time and hard work like training building muscle mass just to play for a professional football team, does it change your mind. I think the coaches and school should continue paying the players to play. One reason that pro football players should get paid is that they start in high school and play football in college then when draft day comes they hope and pray that they were good enough to get selected by the national football league to play for one of the teams. Then they train to build muscle and drop calories to meet the standards that the NFL wants them to meet in order to play. Then the players work on the of the position they play for example a wide receiver may work on foot work and catching, and a running back may work…

What do football players have, but don’t know they have? Power. Power can be described as the possession of a capacity or ability to direct and influence the behavior of others, and/or alter the course or outcome of situations and events. College students, specifically, athletes, are generally unaware how much power they have until opportunities put them to the test. The athletes attending the University of Missouri recently put their power to the test and found their use of power resulted in a successful outcome. However, even with their success, the on-going argument as to whether athletics can promote social justice, still remains.…

I know I have trouble with being sure of myself and being confident in what I can do on the field. Although, I am a player that wants to be successful more than anything else in the world I am willing to go through anything and everything you can think of if it will make me a better athlete. When I read Coach Wooden’s book I realized you need poise and confidence in order to reach all the success you want and that really changed me, because I have that motivation and that drive to be successful in every way that I can. Also, poise and confidence weren’t just on the pyramid of success they were at the very top on the second row on this pyramid, so that just goes to show that confidence and poise are two things I really should work on as a person and as an athlete if I want to reach all the potential I know I can. Since I am motivated to be the best I can be, since I have that competitive fire to have all the potential in the world I read this book…

One of the most important preparations is an athlete’s confidence. Self-confidence is “belief in one’s powers and a state of assurance exuded by every great athlete, such as Michael Jordan, Jack Nicklaus, Roger Clemens, Wayne Gretzky, Nadia Comaneci, and Serena Williams” (Leith, 2008, p. 18). These great athletes all believe in their skills and abilities, which is considered a good thing in competitive sports. Confidence, many times, is the difference between being a good athlete or the best athlete, the difference between failure and…

In Grantland Rice’s article, “The Four Horsemen”, he talks about football and how Notre Dame had such an amazing team with the “Four Horsemen”. Made up of “Stuhldreher, Miller, Crowley and Layden” the team had an unstoppable force. With every spot =, especially in college, there are reporters such as Rice who will make up nicknames and make every story and play about a game come alive into something amazing. I love when sports casters do as such, but when they make players sound bad or look bad for a story, that is where I draw the line.…

Senior Year My greatest memory so far in my eighteen years of being on this earth is without a doubt my senior year of high school. It was absolutely unforgettable. My senior year as a whole (which was just last year) was the most fun I’ve ever had in my life and the happiest I have ever been. When I was a chubby little freshman with glasses I thought to myself that high school would be one of the longest time periods of my life and that four years would feel like forty years. But man was I wrong, high school went by in the blink of an eye.…
