The biggest problem that happened was between Suzzallo and UW against Governor Hartley. After the issue with Suzzallo and Hartley about the new state timber laws, another problem occurred needing to go through Hartley. “The University of Washington had grown dramatically in the 1920s, from an enrollment of less than 3,000 at the close of World War I, to over 8,500 for the 1930-1931 school years. There had been struggles with the governor and legislature over funding and battles with students over tuition, especially after the UW imposed a fifty percent increase to make up a deficit.” (UniversityofWashington).
