Leah and Suzy have been through what you might think a rough patch in their relationship, but for them, it was an event that changed their life forever. The story “Suzy and Leah” by Jane Yolen are chronological diary entries from two girls. The character Leah doesn’t find Suzy very appealing, as where Suzy is just trying to be kind and helpful towards Leah. Therefore, it appears that Leah doesn’t appreciate Suzy’s acts of kindness, but little does Suzy know what really happened to Leah before she came to the United States. It’s challenging for anyone to fully understand what others are going through unless we have walked in their shoes and experienced what they have been through. This story provides an opportunity for readers to understand how easily we can misinterpret others and perhaps misjudge people.
Leah and Suzy's relationship had been rough and judgemental from day one. When Leah first saw Suzy, she was just “a girl with yellow hair and a false smile”, giving away her sweets.
