Suzie Mcafee Biography

Superior Essays
Suzie McAfee was the biggest, meanest sixth-grader in Northlake elementary school. She stood taller than the schoolyard fence, and wider than the trunk of an oak tree. Her daddy is the town’s mayor and she's so rich she can “sue the socks off ya”. By her side, she has Stacy and Gracie Stewart, a.k.a. the twin towers, and a bunch of big six grade boys, including my older brother Caleb, known as the Dogs, at her feet. The Dogs do her every bidding in hopes of never getting their names on her “Hate List”.

The Hate List was a list of boys that Suzie hated for the week. It was posted in the school's bathrooms and every rainy recess, Suzie would dunk the boys from the Hate List into the schools muddiest, stinkiest, mud pile we called the “Poop pool”.

On my second grade birthday, I was given a giant rainbow lollipop from my teacher. Despite Caleb's warning to “hide it where the Bloody Giant won't see you”, I lick my lollipop loud and proud in front of all my friends at recess, enjoying and bathing in the looks of their jealousy. And just as Caleb predicted, my big lollipop got the attention of the Bloody Giant herself.

“Here comes the Bloody Giant!” Some random kindergartener screamed. Knowing there's no escaping her wrath, my friends and I simply stood where we were, accepting our doom. It wasn't long before the Bloody Giant with her Twin towers and pack of Dogs came before us, my brother Caleb, of course, included.

“Scum,” The Bloody Giant said, pointing her chewed nails at me,”Give me my lollipop”.

I could feel the whole playground’s eyes on me. Even though the smart thing to do would to be handover the lollipop, I couldn't bring myself to handover my colorful, tasty birthday present, so I shook my head silently. The whole playground gasped. No one disobeyed the Bloody

The tragedy of the 9/11 attack had a lasting impact on the dynamic of families and individuals across the nation. As the unbelievable occurred, people struggled to find ways to overcome the situations they had been faced with. In his novel, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran Foer emphasizes this through elements in his writing such as characterization, graphic images, a detailed setting, and the use of multiple narrative strands. These effectively create the story of nine year old Oskar and his journey to healing after the loss of his father in the 9/11 attack. Foer’s strategic use of these devices gives this story depth and shows how the tragedy and loss caused by 9/11 can be complicated by guilt, anger, fear, and resentment,…

Segregation is the separation of humans into racial groups in daily life. Throughout history in multi-racial communities segregation has always existed. It can be found anywhere from in school to in the work place. In Jennifer Baszile’s “The Black Girl Next Door” we witness the difficulties Jen and her family have integrating into the white upper class neighbourhood in the year of 1975. This is shown through Jen’s anger, betrayal and naivety, her mom’s teacher-like approach vs. her dad’s business man like approach as well as the social and religious symbols displayed throughout the story.…

The Book I chose to explore was I Survived: The Attacks of September 11th, 2001, author and illustrated by Lauren Tarshis. I chose this book because I enjoyed the previous "I survived" novel that I read. This book is a Non-Fiction book because the events that occur in this book actually happened. Lucas was a real person who saw the 2 gigantic airplanes crash into the twin towers right before his eyes. In addition, he saw them collapse and he, his father and Uncle were very lucky to be alive!…

ZZ packer’s short story “Brownies” is a of a type genre I do not particularly gravitate to when looking to read something. However, I am glad I had the opportunity to do so. In her writ-ing Ms. Packer touches on an ugly truth in society. Namely racial intolerance, indifference and misunderstanding through ignorance and through conflict. Capably she explores the issue through the experience of a summer camp outing for two Girl Scout troops of elementary school aged girls, one African American and the other Caucasian.…

Hush is a horror movie about a woman named Madison Young. Maddie is a mute author, who temporarily lost her hearing and her speaking ability when she contracted bacterial meningitis when she was 13. She ended up losing both her hearing and her speaking ability after she had a surgery that went wrong. Due to Maddie’s disabilities, Hush presents an emphasis on isolation and the importance of existential awareness that other horror movies fail to provide. Hush is different because most of the movie there isn't much noise and dialogue, especially when we’re in Maddie’s point of view.…
