S’niya, a fourth-grade student at Miramar Elementary School, was given four assessments from a Scholastic resource packet that helps to determine what level of reading a student is currently achieving. The Scholastic resource assessments allow a teacher to establish an idea of the student’s reading proficiency and also helps to conclude what sort of instructional plan would best suit the needs of each individual student. With the Clinical Educator’s discretion, S’niya was assigned to complete a third-grade phonics and vocabulary assessment, and a fourth-grade phonics and vocabulary assessment. The reason I chose to weigh Seraphina’s Promise, chapter quiz 25/25 is because this assignment is based on the student’s ability to listen, comprehend, and answer questions pertaining to the text through a paper test. The book will be read orally, chorally, or listened to via audio and the students will work with a partner to answer the questions. Therefore, I feel that this style of assignment should be worth a smaller percentage of the student’s grade.…

As soon as one graduates from high-school and moves on to attend a College or University, students will eventually get the taste of a college level course. When moving onto college, students must be enrolled in an English class. Whether it is remedial or a college level, they must take it. Some people might be startled by how different college English can be, because the way one has to write is very different compared to what they have done previously in their high-school English class. This transition can be difficult and sometimes frustrating for many new students because the material we learn is different in many ways.…

Writing has proven to be a very serious struggle in my academic journey as a whole. I struggle with naturally choosing to write how I speak, and in an academic setting this proves to be very harmful to my grade. This un-academic style of writing cause me to make a 2 on the AP English exam when, if I would have simply taken my time and chosen to write more scholarly, I could have scored a far better grade on the exam and certainly would have been able to exempt English 1101. It is something I know I struggle with, yet I continue to do it. Furthermore, I believe enrolling in Professor Misty Soles English 1101 class truly helped shape my writing to a more collegiate standard.…

Everyone hates English class is what I thought before taking English 102. However, that may have been the case before I entered Dr. Byrd’s domain, but after finishing the class I have come to the realization that English class can be greatly resourceful. English 102 this year has had its ups and downs, and I must admit the ups outweigh the downs. Meaning, this year, I have learned that I am not a student who wants to read or write, but through reading and writing my mind and skill sets concerning English have grown. During English 102 this year, reading and writing in class helped me expand my writing skills, improved my will to comprehend, and most importantly helped expand my knowledge.…

In observing and applying Chickering’s Theory myself I interviewed three students. I asked three simple questions such as “How is your week going?”…

The Transitions Theory, a middle range theory, will be used as a guide throughout the DNP project. The Transitions Theory, as cited in McEwen and Wills (2014), began with the recognition of the “experiences that humans face as they deal with changes relating to health, well-being, and their ability to care for themselves.” McEwen and Wills (2014) continued to emphasize the interaction between the nurse and patients in this process and the role of the nurse in developing health promotion and therapeutic interventions to assist in the experiences. Just as in young adults transitioning from pediatric to adult primary care, the providers will assist in the transitional process to initiate and guide the process. The theory recognizes three main…
