Suzanne Britt Neat People Vs Sloppy People

Improved Essays
In the essay Neat People vs. Sloppy People by Suzanne Britt she explains what she believes the differences are between neat people and sloppy people. The Suzanne Britt has a tendency to support the sloppy people more than the neat people because she believes that the sloppy people are disorganized because they have more important tasks to perform then to clean. I believe that the neatness that the author is talking about could be a symbol of metaphorical clutter people may have in their lives. The clutter that she is referring to is likely the difficult situations that people encounter in their everyday lives. This form of disorganization and discombobulation can clutter the mind filling it with important or sometimes unimportant information.

In an excerpt, published by The American Scholar, English author Margaret Drabble claimed that “Our desire to conform is greater than our respect for objective facts”. To people that might not mean anything because they view it as a basic principle of life but to other people, like me, it makes us think what society has come to. The quote itself seems to generalize a community specifically the teen community but in reality, everyone becomes a victim when they conform just to fit in. Speaking as a teenager, people think our day consist of waking up, going to school, coming home, doing homework, falling asleep then continuing the routine once again. What people seem to forget is how harsh the world really is.…

The Thief In Megan Turner’s The Thief, The author develops the main character, “Gen” by using indirect characterization (STEAL). The story “Mess” by John Hollander is interesting take on the concept on cleanliness and how the human mind perceives it. Hollander starts out his essay by giving an example of how different people react to a mess. He refers to the subjects as X and Y. He states that what may seem messy to X, could be perfectly neat and orderly to Y. Hollander even goes as far to say that if Y had a pile a books, and X arranged all the books into a neat stack, the neat stack could appear to be utter chaos to Y. After this profound example, the article continues to go on and list all the different kind of messes that exist in our lives. Hollander breaks the messes into different categories such as outdoor messes, indoor messes, personal states, and personal appearance messes.…

When people think about mental illnesses, they generally do not think about compulsive hoarding. Hoarding in households has become more superficial in more recent years. Why people acquire many worthless items still has not become a clear-cut reason. In The Tortured Lives of People Who Can’t Throw Things Out, authors Cecile Bouchardeau and Monica Delarosa said, “We are all pack rats to some degree.” Everyone has a tendency to hold on to belongings that no longer have meaning to possess, but not everyone has something within that makes them incapable of disposing of possessions.…

Some qualities I feel I possess as a person and a hygienist is that I am determined, responsible, self-motivated, organized, and flexible. Determination is something I knew I wanted to achieve when I started college it is something everyone needs to possess to be successful in life to better their future. For example, from the moment I started in the dental hygiene program I was determined to pass my courses and to graduate. I had to be determined in my courses if I wanted to be able to take my state board and hopefully become a licensed dental hygienist. Without determination, I know I would not be where I am today in my life and my career path.…

Laurel Thatcher Ulrich’s essay Well-Behaved Women Seldom Make History, is an excellent example of analytical social history, that is aimed to educate other historians, women, and others interested in social history (the history of groups that might not have participated in mainstream life), the intersectionality of women’s history, and pop-culture. Ulrich’s essay uses several rhetorical devices to create a convincing argument for the existence of collaborative history and the importance of social history, within more entrenched historical norms. Particularly, she uses different styles of narration, first focusing on her own personal life, then more typical historical examples, and finishes with a synthesis of her own personal story of historicization…

" stop being lazy and get up and do something" is a common phrase in my house. Every day my mom calls me lazy and wishes that I would do something to change that. In the world that we live, everybody is lazy. We may have different degrees of lazy, but they all share the same meaning. Asking someone to turn the lights off when your two steps away from the switch, asking someone to get a remote control right in front of them, or acting like a couch potato would be considered lazy.…

An example of a disorganized environment would be a chaotic home for a child. A lot of people would agree with the opinion that children growing up in these disorderly homes tend to not do well in school. As said by Kovas and Haworth, (2007), scholastic achievement to some degree is passed down genetically. The twin study done by Hanscombe, Haworth, Davis, Jaffee, and Plomin (2011) was to examine the genetic and environmental factors that link disorderly and chaotic homes and how well a child does in school. Identical twins share one hundred percent of their DNA, while non-identical twins only share fifty percent of their DNA.…
