Sustainable Living Community

Sustainable living is, in short, living in harmony with the community around you and the natural world you are placed in, in such a way that your actions will not harmfully affect the world around you now, or the state of that community for future generations. The fact that today's activities are imposing a heavy burden on the earth's capacity has led me to an increasing interest in environmental issues. It is emphasized that rapid production growth has exhausted natural resources and polluted the environment. I believe the sustainable living community is the best place for me to live, because I believe sustainability is a small, but an effective to have an impact on a community or in the world in general. This past summer, I worked for the University of Michigan grounds crew. I helped with sustaining the grounds all over their campus. One of the main things we worked with was composting. Composting is a mixture of various decaying organic substances, as dead leaves or manure, used for fertilizing soil. On our crew we would take all of the weeds and dead plants we picked up around campus and put them in a giant compost pile. This …show more content…
In this class we looked how biodiversity can help sustain an ecosystem. Sustainability, from what I learned, is important in an ecosystem because boosts ecosystem productivity where each species, no matter how small, all have an important role to play. Without sustainability in an environment the ecosystem would fail. Cell biology has taught me the importance of sustainability in an environment, because I feel without knowing how to sustain an environment how can we sustain the earth.
