I now believe that a lot of people are truly trying to learn about protecting the planet and invoking social justice in their every day lives. This has been illustrated to me by the amount of people outside of the class that attend the ESS lectures, and the excitement that our lectures have for their specific role in environmental health as well as their enthusiasm for other people’s contributions. In attempting to save natural resources and create a better world for all we must let go of the mentality that the world revolves around us as individuals, and focus on us as beings, like every other organism in the world, we are simply a small part of a greater ecosystem. Some examples are, agroecosystems, a practice founded in Holland and brought to North America by Herman Mentink (personal communication, October 1, 2015), and biomimicry (N. Hill, personal communication, September 22, 2015), which is why we first had biodiversity in agriculture. Individuals have played a major role in developing our current environmental and social circumstances, and it will be individuals that will educate the masses of our pending future and preserving the earth.
