In Wayne Vissers’ ‘Age of Responsibility’, the meaning of responsibility and what is takes to be successfully responsible to ourselves and those around us is explored. “Being responsible also does not mean doing it all ourselves. Responsibility is a form of sharing, a way of recognizing that we’re all in this together” (Visser, 2011). The youth is the future of Calgary and it is up to our communities and companies to foster the ideas of a more sustainable and environmentally friendly way of living with them. How can our children learn the importance of be conscientious if we do not teach them or provide them with information about our world? Green Kids is the educational program our children need. “Green Kids program is offered to schools, community, and homeschool groups year round; and is an opportunity for children Kindergarten to Grade 6 to experience hands on environmental education (“Green Kids”., 2017). Educating the children isn’t always enough but adding the opportunity for them to do some of the work themselves such as recycling and composting helps to foster interest even further. Another experience offered by Green Calgary that sets them apart from other companies working towards corporate social responsibility is Green Calgary’s EcoStore (EcoStore., 2017). Open 5 days a week, the company opened a store for the community to shop environmentally conscious products. These products are all reusable and recyclable, packed with non-toxic and natural ingredients, as well as being as locally and ethically sourced as possible (EcoStore., 2017). The accessories for composting and the companies rain barrels are also available at the sores location. The only criticism I have for the company in regards to the EcoStore is that more were made available around the city to promote further growth and reach a larger market. For families that don’t live in the North end of Calgary or for those that live in areas outside of the city, it is hard to shop for Green Calgary Products. The company has also committed to making sure “all the proceeds go right back into providing innovative environmental programs
