Lamb to the Slaughter is written by Roald Dahl, the story intrigues the reader with its eerie suspense. In the story Mary seems like the perfect wife, but when her husband tells her some unfortunate news that she is dumbfounded by the story turns. Mary hits her husband with a chunk of lamb and he crashes to the floor dead. As a result of being pregnant Mary does not want to go to prison so she comes up with a brilliant plan. In Lamb to the slaughter the irony was superior. There was dramatic irony included in this short story for instance, when the policemen said “...right under our very noses” referencing to the murder weapon which the reader knows that the policemen are actually eating the weapon. Not only is there irony, but there is compelling imagery. When the detective says the husband 's skull was shattered this helps the reader picture how hard the wife really hit him. It is not just that, the reader can picture Mary giggling because she got away with the murder. This short story also had details included how she got away with the murder and everything she did. Well the other short story The lady or the tiger left out details like, did the prisoner open the right door and just overall details about the prisoner himself. The structure of the sentences did not help the story and did not add anything for the reader like it did in Lamb to the slaughter were the choppy sentences seem to make the reader more interested. Everything about Lamb to the slaughter is what makes the story more compelling and loved by many more readers than the short story The lady or the
