Stem cells have always been a “hot button issue” in America ever since 1998 when President Bill Clinton requested a National Advisory Commission to study the topic of stem cell research. Being that stem cells are a relatively new discovery and research has been heavily restricted, many people know little about them. Logos is one of the trickiest forms of rhetoric used, because it employs reason and logic to persuade its audience. Supporters and naysayers alike use logos in their arguments to convince an audience of the promise or danger that they believe stem cells pose in society.…

In reflection of the theme of my creative portfolio, a woman’s perspective on infertility, I have chosen an artwork by Heidi Holmes as my first artifact. What might appear as many dots scattered about on a wall, is actually thousands of pressed hydrangeas (1). This photograph of an exhibit by Holmes does indeed have a connection to infertility. This connection, which I will expound on, has to do with Holmes personal experience with infertility and confronts ideas such as the struggles women have when using In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF).…

Treatment Sadly, despite the complexity and multiple risk factors associated with the condition, no universal recommendations for treatment exist (Smith, 2014). Rather than a single treatment modality most practitioners utilize a symptoms approach. This idea proposes that troublesome symptoms dictate treatment. While effective, this may not be the best course of action to prevent disease progression. Another school of thought is to treat the underlying cause of the symptoms and promote significant lifestyle changes to help decrease comorbidities.…
