Introverts are often seen as shy, reclusive people who are problems that better, more extroverted people have to put up with, but in reality the differences between them only constitute whether they respond best to internal or external stimulations (Cain). Extroverts tend to thrive best when in environments surrounded by lots of people, and introverts tend to thrive best when in quieter environments where they can think (Cain). Because of the more outgoing, open personalities of extroverts, introverts are often denied the chance to shine, partly because they tend to not speak up. In Susan Cain’s Ted Talk, “The Power of Introverts”, she claims, “the more freedom that we give introverts to be themselves, the more likely that they are to come …show more content…
Group work can be very beneficial, but so can working alone. We should go off by ourselves and discover our own ideas and solutions to problems, and then come together as a group (Cain). Solitude is also crucial to one’s well being. Moses, Jesus, Buddha, and Muhammad are all influential beings that would go into the wilderness and have their own revelations (Cain). According to Cain, “have your own revelations.” Everyone should escape the chaos of the world around them and go into the wilderness alone to immerse themselves in their own thoughts and ideas because solitude is crucial to creativity (Cain). Cain also encourages us to share what’s in our suitcases. As introverts, we tend to guard ourselves very carefully, but sometimes we need to gather the courage to open up and share with others who we are. Eleanor Roosevelt, Rosa Parks, and Gandhi were all described as quiet and shy, but in one moment they denied every bone in their body that screamed at them to be quiet, and they took to the spotlight because it was what they believed they had to do (Cain). Cain stated that, “this turns out to have a special power all on its own.” “They were there because they had no choice, because they were driven …show more content…
One such power is listening and thinking deeply. They prefer to be quiet, listen to others speak, think about what’s being said, and when they do speak, it’s rarely spur of the moment. But, for all the good that comes from being a good listener, it’s important that introverts know how to speak for themselves. Remund states, “Introverts must learn to speak up and inject their ideas and opinions, just as extroverts do.” “This requires emotional awareness, self-confidence, and true diligence

There’s also examples in modern day to prove that quiet people have clever minds. “If there is only one insight you take away from this book, though, I hope it’s a newfound sense of entitlement to be yourself.” (Cain, 15) Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain explains that not only do extroverts tend to be noticed more, but in some instances being introverted is frowned upon. Being an introvert myself, I felt an immediate connection to the book. Susan Cain used numerous examples of introverts and how they live in a world where they are constantly challenged by the belief that extroverts are ‘the ones who are right for the job’. The author, who is as well an introvert, showed her struggles and overcoming them while remaining an introvert and teaching other introverts how to find…

Susan Cain, one of the TED speakers and also a Wall Street lawyer, starts off her TED talk "The Power of Introverts" with her experience in the summer camp when she was nine years old. Back then, whenever she tried to pull out a book from her suitcase full of book that her mother had prepared for her to go to the camp, she "got the message that somehow [her] quiet and introverted style of being was not necessarily the right way to go and that [she] should be trying to pass as more of an extrovert" either from her campmate, her camp counselor, or possibly many other people from her other 50 stories. Despite that message, Susan Cain still intuitively believes that introverts like her have their own power, which is especially important in the…

Cain begins the novel by introducing the introvert lifestyle. She concludes that these individuals are apprehensive, timid, and focused on individuality. Although introverts are perceived to be recluse and isolated, they do socialize and enjoy parties but often need time alone whereas extroverts are always in need of company. I anticipate that the author will demonstrate how extroverts will dominate our society and socially neglect introverts. My life revolves around the struggle between pretending to be an extrovert and acting like an introvert.…

Introverted individuals in particular exemplify how individuals keep a facade of themselves to protect their identities from the harsh critiques and unrealistic expectations of society. Shy, quiet, reserved: all those terms describe introverts; however, in some cases people consciously choose to act in such a way that averts attention and scrutiny. In school, societal pressures demand competition between peers for academic achievement; it demands conforming to a set standard of appearance; it demands acting different to fit in. Moreover, students deviate from these norms in self-selected societies such as teams or clubs. Therefore, selected communities encourage introverted individuals to embrace their unique identities and behave without restraint.…
