The notorious owls are the more nightmarish part of nature, the horned owl is a menacing yet spectacular creature of the woods. But, balance can be found in the flowers. The bright, elegant flowers bring joy and pleasure to all that are around them, the flowers are the more gratifying part of nature. Although definitely not the only one to experience such dangers, Nina Raspopova’s near death stories highlight some of the many dangers that the 588th faced, and she stresses in her account that she was never not afraid (Noggle, 2001). President Trump is not the cause behind America’s flaws because American has always been flawed. “The Devil and Tom Walker” by Washington Irving and “The Black Cat” by Edgar Allen Poe comment on the imperfections of American society by exploring concepts of valuing the individual over group, favoring ignorant decisions over logical ones, and the skewed view of women in everyday life. During the peak of Romanticism, literature would often have characters who often reject reasoning to mirror the ignorance of the everyday American citizen.…

In Gladwell’s essay, he examines both first generation Italian Americans and second or third generation Italian-Americans living in New Haven, Connecticut. He finds that while both generations consume alcohol greatly, the first generation is responsible for fewer incidents related to alcoholism than the second or the third generation. To account for this observation, he explains that first generation Italian Americans are still more inclined toward original Italian culture, while the second or the third generation has already assimilated to the American culture. His explanation can, therefore, prove that when consuming alcohol, people behave in accordance with their expectations of how they will behave under the effect of alcohol. While the Italian drinking culture is integrated, the American drinking culture is ambivalent, which gives rise to two different expectations of the impact of alcohol (Gladwell).…

This legislation of Common Core Standards and transcendentalism go hand in hand with the controversy covering this issue as some believe that the Common Core could be helpful and others believe that this new standard is going to be more harmful. Is it important to be oneself or to copy those who have been successful? It more important to be yourself because that's the way god made us if he wanted us to be the same he would of made us all look the same in every aspect, we would be like robots. It's better to be yourself than to copy others because one it's called being original. Some people say is better to copy other people because of what they achieved ,but what they don't know is that it doesn't work the same way for everyone else. For example if a person wants to be a singer and they look up to that artist and want to follow in their footsteps from the way they became famous to the way they have become over the years, but the thing is you can’t copy them because when…

In “Self-Reliance” by Ralph Waldo Emerson, he presents ideas that can still be useful to people today. Emerson speaks about the notion of how people should determine their own fate rather than permitting society to decide. Here is an example of this notion, “There is a time in every man’s education when he arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide…” (page 93). In this quote, Emerson is saying that there comes a time in everybody’s life when they realize that by imitating others they are sacrificing their own individuality.…
