Survival is the ability to live or exist and face new challenges. Lion represents survival by trusting your instincts, adapting to surroundings and considering all options and think of innovative ideas.The author of Lion is Saroo Brierley written in 2013.The story is about a young boy who gets’s lost in Calcutta, then he is adopted by an Australian family then when he is an adult he finds his way home to meet his birth mother.In the novel Lion, There are many different ideas about survival presented.

This can be shown when Saroo adapts to both the streets of Calcutta and his new family of Australia. “Adapting to a western lifestyle seemed easy most of the time, with mum and dad’s guidance, and they say I settled in well. At first we ate a lot of Indian food, and mum slowly introduced me to an Australian diet”.(87)“Living in the big station wasn’t too different from the way I’d lived before, so although I was often scared and miserable, I knew how to get by, and I suppose my body was used to it”. (P.34)The reader thinks that Saroo adapted to these places very easy.Like in Calcutta he adapted to scavenging for food off the streets and finding a new and safe place to sleep at night on the streets.He also adapts well in Australia with his new parents and the Australian lifestyle.The reader understands that Saroo even though only 5 years of age adapt to new environments, people, cultures, and surroundings.The reader feels sad that he has to always adapt to new environments at such a young age.In order to survive you need to adapt to new places and
