Breeders is a documentary about the ethics of surrogacy. The film features several different problems that arise and consequently, attempts to persuade the viewer that surrogacy is not ethically clear. On the contrary, there is nothing wrong with surrogacy as a job, as ethical complaints are illogical.
The first argument several opponents of surrogacy in the video suggest is that the payment of surrogacy creates a commodity of children environment that affects the sanctity of humanity. Yet what people don’t acknowledge is money is already very involved in healthcare. From ambulance rides to cancer treatments keeping yourself alive comes at a cost. Furthermore, expenditures are also intertwined in reproduction with fertility pills, IVF, and

In most people's eyes this is wrong because in our society it’s the expectation that you bear your own child. In regards to such rights includes the controversy of reproduction options for those who cannot have children of their own. As these difficulties arose came solutions where technological innovations led to the development of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) and surrogate mothering, and were giving want-to-be parents the biological children they thought they could never have. In the article, Surrogate Mothering: Exploitation or Empowerment?, Laura M. Purdy discusses the various moral perspectives of surrogacy mothering, as well as the benefits and costs of this practice. Sex: A Horizon Guide, a documentary directed by Michael Duffy and released September 11, 2013, discusses the importance of science in the development of the human’s understanding of human sexuality and the technology helping those with problems relating to sex, such as erectile dysfunction, STIs, gender dysphoria, infertility, and unwanted pregnancies. Overall, I was impressed with the role science has played in developing medicine and other technologies that most take for granted today, but were only invented recently, such as Viagra and “The Pill.” Much of what the documentary presents coincides with content from David Knox’s and Caroline Schacht’s Choices in Relationships: An Introduction to Marriage & the Family. Three major points Duffy…

America has the highest healthcare expenditure per capita. The question on most everyone’s mind is: where is our money going? Many Americans, especially those who align with the right-wing, oppose Obamacare for instilling a universal healthcare (The Republican Party has tried to repeal Obamacare more than 50 times). The healthcare system we have now, however, is far from universal. Though Obamacare has fixed some of the issues that America has with its healthcare system, America is still overspending on healthcare by an insane amount.…

Surrogacy also raises many complex social, emotional and parenting issues, including the legal recognition of genetic parents. Under the Status of Children Act 1996 (NSW), ‘when a woman becomes pregnant by using donor sperm from someone other than her husband, then that man is presumed not to be the father of the child born’. In the case of B v J (1996), the father refused to pay maintenance, arguing that the child wasn’t his child and that maintenance was the responsibility of the sperm donor because the donor’s name appeared on the child’s birth certificate. This case illustrated the confusion and uncertainty that exists in the law in particular when dealing with birth technologies. In regards to surrogacy, each state has different acts and this also creates inconsistencies and conflict between state acts.…
