I found the statistics very surprising but most I have already learned in other modules. According to the interview, 2,000 plus children die each year from abuse and five plus children are killed each day. Even though is based on 2002, I am wondering to know how accurate these statistics are and how much they have changed. Another surprising thing that I learned was that children who were molested, usually molest others at the same age they were molested. According the interview, financial and physical abuse are the most common types elder abuse she has seen and it very sad that people take advantage of people helpless individuals. Most of the cases I have heard about is about how people abuse their elders, and eventually kill them to inherit money. The elderly are just as vulnerable as child and are taken advantage of in similar ways. Just as children can be abused emotionally and physically, the elderly are no different. Many of incidents of elder abuse are not reported because just like any abuse it is very difficult for the victim to report. Stress can come from a variety of factors and multiple levels of stress can eventually lead to domestic violence. For example, dealing with the stress from finances, children, relationship issues can greatly impact the adults in the household and cause them to use violence.
