I decided to look more into the career of surgical technicians because I used to work as a surgical tech intern at Sanford and was interested in possibly working as one in the future.

Surgical technicians, also known as surgical technologists, are a direct assistants to surgical staff. This includes the anesthesiologist, surgeon, and assisting nurses. A surgical tech’s main responsibility is to prepare, stock, and clean operating rooms. This way direct surgical staff have a clean and organized workplace so they are able to better focus on their patient and the surgery itself. With a degree or certificate it will be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES). You can also get voluntary certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting, or the National Center for Competency Testing. Surgical technicians will receive their post-secondary education or certification and then will undergo on the job training by shadowing other surgical techs.
