The surgery was scheduled for early in the morning and at 5 am I was in the hospital. I hoped that my early arrival will allow me to observe the work of Surgical Technologist from the very first moment, when she sets up the back table. I think that the one of the most captivating parts of any medical procedure is the prep work. First of all, because when you set up all instruments and other surgical supplies in the proper order, neatly and according to the protocol’s requirements, you kind of set the right mood throughout the subsequent surgical procedure; secondly, in my opinion, prep work it’s a kind of art, because you have to store not only necessary supplies, but also predict what instruments could be needed additionally. …show more content…
I got a sealed plastic bag with the scrub, booties, head cover and mask. All this parts of equipment important for me and for patient as well, they are not allowing for germs spread all around the operating room. Then, one of the nurses showed me the special way how all members of surgery team washing their hands before the surgery. They have special sinks that operates by your feet (so you can turn on water and dispense the soap without touching anything by your hands. It is necessary if you have to keep your hands sterile), and individually sealed sterile sponges that using for cleaning hands and nails. We spent about 5-7 minutes for washing our hands in the special, sterile way. Next step was pretty tricky; while you keep your hands sterile you have to turn on your gloves. Finally, with some help I can make it and was approves for entering operating room and observe the
