INTRODUCTION
Surface waters are the natural water resources that are found on the earth’s surface, such as oceans, rivers, lakes or dams etc(Chen, Teng et al. 2013). These water resources become polluted in many different ways. And when this happens is called the surface water pollution, which occurs when hazardous substances come into contact with the water resources (Chen, Teng et al. 2013). These water resources are important for drinking, domestic use and recreational purposes; however they are frequently contaminated with faeces. In this assignment the focus will be on China.

LEGAL IMPLICATIONS
China developed ways in which they can prevent water pollution; they implemented the Environmental Protection Law(Wu, Zhao et al. 2009). This law will be against people who pollute the water resources and fail to rectify their mistake, meaning that there will be punishment for those people or companies (Li, Dong et al. 2007). The government created awareness programs for the public in order to make them aware of the impact of water pollution and how to prevent it.
