Sure Thing Play Analysis

Decent Essays
Working on a play like Sure Thing in the classroom would help developing actors learn the importance of timing and recognize how important it is to keep a scene moving if working on their improvisational skills. While this show was scripted(I think), it seemed as if it were an improvisational show and every time the bell was rung, the actors had to change the direction of the scene. To make the scene successful, the actors had to react quickly after the bell was rung, and stay focused. At times when there were many rings in a short amount of time it could have become distracting, so staying focused on your fellow actor and staying in character is vital to making the flow. As somewhat mentioned, one obstacle that can get in the way of the actor

The play, Yankee Tavern, by Steven Dietz, published by Dramatists Play Service Inc, was unquestionably some food for thought. All throughout the storyline, numerous conspiracies ranging from starbucks being a cult in a cup to man landing on the moon were woven between the four main characters, Adam, Janet, Ray and Palmer. That being said, perhaps the most prominent of all, were the one’s related to the terrorist attack on the United States on September 11, 2001. Needless to say, that was probably a touchy subject to write so in detailed about. Nonetheless, Dietz crafted the plotline in a very elegant and perhaps informative manner.…

On October 28, 2017, I attended Desert Hot Springs High School’s theatrical performance, Love Sick, a play produced by John Cariani. Mr. Landmann is the head director of the theater department at DHSHS and was able to execute a great show with the help of his students: Matilde Alejandro, Megan Johnson, Bethany Navarro, Luis Salazar, Nathaniel Esparza, Natalia Martinez, Angel Limas, Esmeralda Hernandez, Esmeralda Salazar, Nicholas Jacob Gamboa, Baylee Bryant, Jonathan Calderon, Erika Aleman, Jesus Hernandez, Austin Aguirre, Edna Escobedo, Anjali Singh, Angel Ramirez, Elijah Cross, Michelle Lopez, Alondra Campos, Sadie Cunningham, Joseph Arisco, Maya Souza, Efrain Flores, Kimberly Solano, and Zauriah Cotton. Love/Sick is a play that contains lovers and dreamers that look into the agony and the happiness that comes with being in love and in relationships. To begin with, the plot of the play was very straightforward and unmissable. It outlined all the effects, good and bad, that comes with being in a relationship as well as depicting all the dilemmas.…

Napoleon Hill once said, “Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle. ”African Americans have endured and struggle through much throughout history, fueled by hate and thought of superiority. However, many African Americans in the south also struggled coexisting amongst each other. Instead of all black people fighting for their rights together some just wanted to coexist with those of the white race. Jonathan Norton’s play, Mississippi GODdamn, completely captures the struggle of African Americans to coexist with one as well as the racial conflict of the 1960s.…

I was able to see a different approach on how to grab the audience’s attention from the other director’s performance. The scene at the same time was very comical, but also held you on the edge of your seat with its high tension and wonderful transformation of a relationship between two characters on stage. This really grabbed my attention and taught me that a transformation of a relationship on stage really enriches the performance. Overall, the knowledge I gained from this activity in class really helped me establish a foundation and base for the mechanics of…

A play that has existed since the 1970s, Step on a Crack by Suzan Zeder is about a young child,Ellie, her widower father that has just remarried, and her new stepmother. Being somewhat biased due to the fact my cousin was the stage manager, I feel the presentation of the play as a whole was very well done. The set itself was relatively simple with them upstairs consisting of the living room and the downstairs containing Ellie's bedroom. The only change of sets was a quick scene where Ellie was wondering the dark and scary streets at night after a confrontation with her new mother. The play being written in the 70s, all the characters ,imaginary or not, were dressed accordingly with wonderful argyle and plaid everywhere.…

I have viewed the play titled Someone’s Knocking by playwright Rich Orloff, which is an odd comedy about a married women who is afraid of “out there”. Furthermore, this performance was seen on October second at the Howard Studio Theatre in Building eleven, Room one hundred and sixty-three. The curtain time was at eight o’clock in the evening and lasted until nine-thirty with one twelve minute intermission. In addition, due to the fact that I am a Florida student, the tickets cost ten dollars instead of the general twelve dollar admission. The goal of this play was to teach the audience that opportunity does not come often, and if it does, to be sure to grasp it.…

Gone Home is a narrative exploration game by the company Fullbright that stars Kaitlin Greenbriar returning to her family home after being overseas. Gone Home is often questioned on the complexity of its game play, and is often thought to be more of an interactive story, however it does fulfill the requirements of a game and I will be discussing various game play mechanics in Gone Home such as the different objects and their attributes, rules for game play and the overall design that help to support the narrative, as well as how all of this is used to create an effective story and why this is the best medium for such a story. I will start by giving the briefest of summaries; the game opens with Kaitlin, who we control in a first person perspective, returning home to a locked house all set in the 90s Their is a note left…
