Surah 2 verse 30-34 is piece of religious text from the youngest of three major religions, Islam. The text that this piece comes from is the holy book of Islam, The Qur’an. A surah is identified as a chapter in the Qur’an, and they are ordered by largest to smallest in length. At the beginning of each surah, there is a line that reads “IN THE NAME OF ALLAH, THE MOST GRACIOUS, THE DISPENSER OF GRACE” to emphasize Allah is the all empowering. Along with the most gracious and the dispenser of grace, Allah has another 97 given names! The Qur’an is the exact word of Allah (or God) speaking to the prophet of Islam, Muhammad. Islam has been said to be a supersessionist faith since it was built upon from both Judaism and Christianity. Muhammad hears the word of Allah through the Angel of Gabriel while sleeping in a cave called Hira. …show more content…
Muhammad begins preaching the word of Allah in Mecca, a city in the Middle East. Since Mecca was a city who worshipped many gods and was polytheistic area, it went against Muhammad’s new monotheistic religion. Meccan merchants threatened to kill Muhammad, and drove him out of the city. Him and his wife fled to Medina. Medina was a city that had a large Jewish population in it. The Jews hear Muhammad’s call for help and asking the Jews to practice Allah’s words. Many of them do, and Muhammad’s Umma increases in size. Surah 2 is described as coming from “Medinan Period.” This means that the surah is much more quiet and less triumphant than Meccan Period surahs.
