The resolution reached by the courts included both positive and negative outcomes. The court 's decision to eliminate the confederate flag, because of what it symbolizes, is a positive outcome proving that our nation has come a long way from slavery. However, others viewed the decision as limiting their rights to free and private speech, which demonstrated to be a negative aspect of the ruling. Though the government no longer tolerates racially offensive symbols and speech, this negative side effect limits the ability for individuals to express their feelings on contentious issues. There is a negative aspect to every ruling, and the court tried its best to satisfy the public. The court’s decision corresponded with the public 's reaction.
