As a consultant hired to improve the subsequent leadership at Foxconn, the primary concern would be to address and eliminate the sources of dissatisfaction amongst workers, arising from a combination of negative influences such as the poor working conditions, unethical treatment and rigid autocratic control. The first recommendation of change would be an effective application of a ‘supportive leadership’ approach, as explained by the path-goal theory, to address the lacking inadequacy of emotional support being provided to workers. The current lack of supportive leadership is a contributing factor that is inducing high levels of stress amongst workers facing both psychological and physical challenges at Foxconn.
