We live in a time where lean operations are becoming vital to the success of a firm; "logistics" and "supply chain management" are common terms for areas of expertise that aid in achieving such success. Though, the two words are often used interchangeably by quite a few businesses, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), a professional organization devoted to researching and educating others on supply chain management, seems to disagree with that mindset. (CSCMP.og) The two words do not encompass the same meaning, but they do work together in order to ensure a business has the capability to the highest level of efficiency. The company "optimizes consolidation, carrier selection, and routing and is one of the best in the 3PL industry." (schneider.com) Schneider has answers to the following problems their customers have in logistics: time-critical delivery, international transportation, private fleet of trucks, committed capacity, capacity during promotional period, and visibility into supply chains. (schneider.com) When looking further into their company 's page, it can be found that they group supply chain management in with logistics as well. While being part of the large logistics section it has its own subsection listing the services they offer for supply chain management including transportation network management and supplier management. Several companies have the issue of using the words logistics and supply chain management interchangeably; this company does not have that problem. They offer logistics services, but specify that they offer the supply change management services as well. It is evident that this company falls under both the definitions of logistics and supply chain management in the same way that APL Logistics does. Though, companies can fall under both definitions of supply chain management and logistics, they are not alone. The positions within the companies can do that as well as in the case of a Supply
