In order to prepare for the interview, I created two list of superstition that found on the internet. Each superstition was chosen at random in order to prevent researcher bias from contamination my study by choosing the superstitions I thought was interesting. See Appendix A for copy of superstition list. I think supplied each individual with the list of 20 random superstitions from their country and gave them 5 minutes to review the superstitions. Then I asked them to tell me about the superstitions that they recognized, what they thought they meant, if there were any superstition that they know that is not on the list, and if they saw any importance to passing down these superstitions. These questions were meant to capture the values behind each of the superstitions and if they saw reasons why superstitions were an effective way to pass along cultural values. Some people go back and take another path as black cat are bad omen. They is no reason why black cat are bad luck. Usually local barbershops are closed on Tuesday. Tuesdays are just an auspicious day. Odd sums of money are cultural followed as well especially at weddings. It’s just good luck. Most of these superstations are not grounded with a reasons. Take prayer to an idol: they contents of the prayer plate on fire and turn it. Why do they do that? No one knows. There is no logical reasoning behind it. If someone sneezes, it’s considered to be bad luck. Also when you live the house, you’re supposed to leave with your right foot. The right side of your body is considered clean while your left is dirty. People will come back inside and leave again to have good luck. Reason being traditional Indian used to wipe the bottoms with their left hands so the left side is unclean. Anything that has to handle something unclean, it is always done with the left while you eat with the right. Bangee trees are supposed to be contain spirits. I don’t know why but they look scary. The evil eye is done to beautiful and nice things to keep people from being jealous. Energy is transmitted between people and can cause bad things to happen so if you mark yourself, people won’t be jealous and transmit negative energy to you. Dogs howling is a symbol of pain so it means something bad is going to happen. Cutting nails at night is supposed to be bad
