2: Many themes are presented throughout this book but one that sticks out to me is that Alex (Jacobs daughter) believes that her father loves her sister Claire more than her. Towards the beginning of the book Jacob is depressed because he thinks his family is dead. Alex snaps him out of his depressed state when she complains that he doesn’t love her and that she hates him. I believe this motivates Jacob to find his family even more and this is the turning point of the book. “‘I hate you,’ she said. ‘You never loved me. It was always Claire, Claire, Claire’” (153). Not only this but also a book that makes the reader really think about what they are reading. If a reader is skimming a book than it is not good literature. This book did make me think many times. Maybe sometimes not for the right reasons but I questioned quite often. The biggest question I asked was “Is this really true/ Can this really be done”. In this sense I thought this book was good literature. However I didn’t get the feeling where I had to keep reading. This book raised many great questions and made me think but I didn’t need to continue to read the book like a good literature book
