Critical thinking is the ability to think about any subject or problem and improve the thought of it by analyzing, and evaluating it objectively. When using critical thinking one must be able to see both sides of issue and be open to new evidence. Decisions or claims made using critical thinking should be based on facts and evidence, and not based on emotions. In the book titled “The Scientific Endeavors” critical thinking is defined as determining if a claim should be accepted or rejected through deliberate determination. (Lee, 2000, p. 85)
It is important to learn critical thinking skills because of the constant stream of ideas that are presented as facts every day. Critical thinking is used to determine what is true, false or incomplete.

Scientific claims are proven to be true or false with evidence and through the direct application of critical thinking. Scientific claims are typically repeatable time and time again resulting in the same results.
Supernatural claims are more of a belief or pseudoscience. Supernatural claims exist in their own paradigm. They usually exist to describe beliefs or feelings. There is usually no way to test supernatural claims using facts described by using critical thinking skills. There is no evidence to prove supranational claims to be true or false. This is why they must be left in the paradigm of beliefs and left out of science. Science at times can support small parts of supernatural claims.

This latter method, however, is terribly inconsistent with the nature of science. That being, of course, that “science is a state of mind. It is a way of viewing the world,” (Angier, 19) through which one can learn more about the workings of his or her own life. This is quite similar to the game of Mastermind, which was played in ISP and which Scott Strobel uses as an analogy for the way science works. Save cases of pure luck, it is essential to exercise critical thinking techniques—scientific techniques—in order to be successful within the game.…

I can honestly say I have never really looked at Critical Thinking the way I see it now. Weak critical thinkers lack the ability to look at things from different points of view being true or not true. Strong critical thinkers have the ability to see things, and question every angle of their way of thinking, and come up with a theory or realistic view or stand point on that topic or discussion. The quality of critical thinking, I feel I am a strong critical thinking! My best quality is Intellectual courage: the willingness to face and fairly assess ideas, beliefs, or viewpoints to which they have not given a serious hearing, regardless of one's strong negative reactions to them.…

To me critical thinking is reading a text, or having a conversation, or watching something on TV and then finding out and understanding what it was trying to portray. Since taking this class I have added more ways for me to think more critically. A few things that have made my critical thinking easier is how to mark a book, reading and reflection, application of wasteland, and the 2 types of information given descriptive and prescriptive. I know that marking a book is good for critical reading but when we read the article How to Mark a Book I found I was completely wrong.…

The diverse ways in which critical thinking can be applied are astonishing. One may find themselves in a group project working towards a common goal and an individual would find it immensely helpful to be able to process the ideas or statements and go through steps exploring possible problems, solutions, and meanings. In a professional environment, possessing this skill would demonstrate not only competency, but leadership. In a meeting, one may be asked what one thinks of the ideas that have been discussed and it would serve one well to be able to analytically and intellectually reflect on what has been discussed and arrive at an answer to a problem that one’s peers would comprehend. Possessing the skill of thinking critically is crucial in all parts of life; it is a skill that will be easily noticed and assist one in answering any question that…

When a scientist is making an observation, they need to ‘ask questions’ and gather all the information which is using critical thinking. All in all, when using the scientific method, critical thinking would be used throughout the whole process, with the use of logic and observation and try to avoid passionate pleads for one solution or another you would be very logical about how you analyze the data and so…

As humans we have several capacities that other species in the animal kingdom do not have. Our brain can reason and process information like no other animals can do, in fact we are capable to judge and make our own conclusions. Unfortunately, not every thought that crosses our minds is accurate; this has led to stablish parameters between what is reliable and what is not. Over the past decades, scientists have avoided to spread information that is not proven. They have used the scientific method to analyze and disseminate facts that we can rely on.…
