supernatural activity has played an important role in the lives of the people of
Scotland. The supernatural element gives the story more interesting and mysterious
atmosphere. (Emma). For example, in the beginning of Macbeth, when the three
withes first appeared to Macbeth and Banquo, the weird sister revealed predictions
of their futures. The witch’s prophecy leads the story off into another path, instead

In fact, one role that supernatural plays can be found in Act three of scene
four. During this scene, Banquo has been assassinated by the command of
Macbeth. After speaking to the first murder at the door, Macbeth returns to his
party, and heads to his sit. But is startled, and halts in his step to someone in his sit.
He repeat tells everyone that the table is full. He realizes the person in his sit is the
ghost of Banquo. Everyone at the table respond to Macbeth’s question by saying
no. And Lady Macbeth then tries to cover up for the king’s odd behavior. The odd
action then soon leads to everyone leaving the party. In this part of the play, the
role of supernatural element can be picked out by Macbeth being the only person
being able to see the appearance of the ghost of Banquo. It shows that Macbeth
feels guilty about killing his friend.
The second role of supernatural activity occurs after Macbeth receives
message of Macduff fleeing to England to help the “traitor” prince. In the

The meaning behind the first apparition was a
warning to watch out for Macduff, who fled to England. Second apparition was
summoned. It appeared as a bloody child. It informed Macbeth that, “ Be bloody,
blood, and resolute; laugh to
scorn the power of man, for none of women can harm Macbeth” (Macbeth 62).
The Bloody child is telling Macbeth that no man will bring harm to Macbeth. The
last apparition was a crowned child who held a tree in hand. The message behind
the vision represent that he will never be defeated until Great Birnamwood meets
the mountain. “Be lion melt proud and take no care who chafes who trets , or
where conspires are: Macbeth shall never vanquished ‘d be until Great
Birnamwood to High Dunsinme shall come against him” (Macbeth 62-63). The
role of supernatural in this part shows that, “Macbeth was too overly confident in
his own ambitions from the first set of predictions, and insecity of knowing his
reign is going to end it is troubling him. Another role can be found in this part, is
the witches they are planning to ruin Macbeth, by playing with his ambition, and
telling him more information about his future and they know it will trouble
