Coleridge uses the supernatural in a way that is storytelling. He even uses the romantic language to show that supernatural and romanticism go hand-in-hand like Lewis. When the Mariner has an encounter with life and death, they are described as: “Her lips were red, her looks were free, / Her locks were yellow as gold: / Her skin was as white as leprosy (448). The way that Coleridge describes Life-in-Death is as if it is something beautiful and how her lips were red and her looks were free. That she looked like someone that was a free body, someone that was a she even. She was a lady and death, or the Grim Reaper even, was always known to be a he.
