Conclusion All in all, the Norwalk-La-Mirada Unified School District board meeting on September 26, 2016, had a heaving itemized agenda that seemed to be divided into three categories: recognitions, updates, and finances. Most of the items were reviewed quickly, however, fiscal matters was the concern of the night. Like many districts, organization of finance is extremely important and necessary to achieve a district’s vision. Nonetheless, without respect, transparency, and proper communication skills, a shared vision will only be a mere dream and student achievement will have little or no…

When the new superintendent demonstrated a collaborative leadership style by forming a Principal interview team that included both veteran and new teachers to choose the new principal, it well-received; therefore, as the new principal, following through with a similar collaborative style would likely be successful. In my perspective, the principal needs to develop a strategic plan that creates a shared vision and goals with a variety of stakeholders, provides professional development for the staff to achieve those goals, and reaches into the community to develop partnerships and positive relationships.…

Public school funding has been an ongoing issue for years. No matter how wealthy the district is, there can be an issue for all when the funds are not distributed fairly. Without enough funds from the government, schools cannot provide adequate supplies for the classroom, cannot provide sufficient transportation cost and cannot pay salaries to those involved in the school district such as teachers and administration. Public school funding also helps provide reduced and free meals to students who qualify. What a lot of people don’t know is where all of this money is coming from and who is paying for it.…

During the indigenous/Native American week, there were many relations and new things that I learned throughout the week. From chapter nine in the Wayne Au book I learned that everyone has a different way of growing up and we all need to embrace where we came from. What I learned the most about that week we all have to love ourselves and who we are. If it was not for our generation before us we would not where we are today and that already is such a huge success because other countries do not the life we are living today. Native Americans were know as “ different” because they their lifestyle was different growing up such as: hunting, the dancing culture and the tongues.…

Texas manages to simultaneously rank among the best and worst in the nation when it comes to education, but only because it excels in some fields and fails in others. An unfortunate side effect of this is that some political leaders in Texas think that budget cuts and funding in regards to education can be used to manipulate their power and political campaigns in order to forward their agenda. Education is a window to future careers; children and young adults should have access to educational services and/or financial aid no matter what income threshold their families come from. According to the tape "House Support for Senate Budget Unlikely" funding for schools were the center of contention between the two houses because the House wants to…

Two gross socio-economical inequalities that have manifested in public schools are the obsessive emphasis on high-stakes testing are damaging for kids in general and people who can afford to send their kids to a private school have no idea how inadequate the public school system can be. Students and schools suffer from high stress levels when their futures rest on the outcome of these tests. The parents who have the know-how, and can afford it, will find some way to get their kids into a better school while parents who do not have the will or the way to get their kids into better schools are stuck with what they got. Emphasis on high stakes testing has pressured teachers into teaching curriculum to pass the test rather than exposing students to new ideas and experiences. When a teacher’s and a school’s reputation and funding rest on the output of the students in the classroom, then logically the teachers and administration are going to push the test.…
