Paper Towns is a novel in which several different themes can be drawn. One of the most apparent themes in this novel is superficiality. There are many different parts of the novel where this theme is apparent. Three places where superficiality can be seen as the theme are Quentin's perception of Margo, for the majority of this story Quentin is in love with Margo. He obsesses over her throughout the entire story. It isn't until the end of this novel where Quentin starts to realise that Margo is not for him. Another place in this novel where superficiality can be seen as the main theme is the way Margo shows herself to society. Margo Roth Spiegelman wants to be seen in society as the typical popular girl. She doesn't want people to know who she truly is and not even the people very close to Margo know her real self. The last area in this book where superficiality can be seen is in Quentin's love for Margo. Quentin's love for …show more content…
Margo has the looks, she has a jock for a boyfriend and she's very well known. It isn't until when Margo and Quentin go on their road trip that we start to learn more about Margo. We learn that she thinks very differently than the typical popular girl. Margo finds flaws in society very often and easily. She thinks that it's “ridiculous” to judge people based off their looks. She sais this but she gives society no choice other than to judge her off her looks because she doesn't show her true self to society. Margos ex boyfriend Jase, knew barely anything about Margo, she didn't open up to him just like everyone else. You can see in this novel, that Quentin is closer to Margo than most of the people in the book, but she still isn't completely open to him. Quentin knows little to nothing about the real Margo, near the end of the story when Quentin starts to learn more about Margo, he realises that she may not be what he thought she

They actually did find her in Agloe at the place they went to search for her and Margo got pretty startled to see them there because it was never her plan to lead Q to her. Q got enraged because she left without saying a word and left him to wonder if she was still alive, so they got into an argument. Since this scene kind of defines and forms the ending of the book, the film's end is a bit different and I would say that it made the end kind of frustrating. Mostly because Q saw Margo randomly at the station where he was waiting for his bus and Margo also explained that she had contact with her little sister the whole time, which I find really annoying because Q talked to her little sister right after Margo’s…

This document details the request from many townsmen of Concord to put an article for the erection of new stables on public land, specifically the Common, upon the Sabbath in the warrant for the town meeting for the month of May. This document was written April 10, 1773, one month before the desired request would be discussed at town meeting. It is addressed directly to the selectmen of the town of Concord and signed “your humble servants” as a sign of respect, and has the signatures of several men on the bottom showing evidence for a desire for more stables. Several of these signatures are from the Wheeler family, a prominent family in early Concord with lineage tracing back to it’s founding. This document was written during a transitional period in American history, when the colonies, and especially Massachusetts, were slowly considering going to war with their oppressive governing body, the Kingdom of England.…

The Ugly American depicts the difficulties the United States experienced in trying to defeat communism in Southeast Asia. It highlighted methods that the U.S. should have adopted to be successful and the ones that led to failure. The book demonstrated how the political and social climates were affected by individuals’ lack of consideration and awareness of the Sarkhanese culture. The characters in this book are fictional, however some share similar qualities of American diplomats serving abroad today. In this essay, I will identify characters that either succeeded or failed to create a positive and productive atmosphere that supported the U.S. interests.…

Why were Victorian cities so unhealthy? There are many reasons out there as to why so many people died in the industrializing cities such as Leeds and Manchester at this time. We from the future look back on this time as a disgusting one, and it was: Children will get sick if they come in contact with feces. Unfortunately, the Victorians didn’t know this. However, perhaps the root cause lies with these four reasons: the population explosion, back to back housing, diseases, and water and waste management.…

Chris Cleveland Week 1 “Social imagination” Social imagination is an awareness and understanding of how one’s life experiences play a role in their opinions, decision making, and views of society. We all have our own social location, and social imagination helps us step outside of our comfort zone to view the world through objective eyes. Social imagination is questioning things we take for granted to be natural behavior or beliefs. “Making the familiar strange” was the perfect way for the text to describe it. Take something that is a widely accepted behavior and analyze it.…
