Although both short stories “Mega” and Superassassin describe the troubles the main character has to confront while living with an alcoholic parent, “Mega” takes place in Germany where Kim Schmitz lives with his alcoholic father, whereas Superassassin takes place in America where an American-Filipino kid lives with his alcoholic mother. While Kim focuses on having a better life than the one he is currently living because of his father’s alcoholic problems, the American-Filipino kid focuses on escaping from the delusional life he has due to social oppression inside and outside his family.
Even though both Kim Schmitz and the kid had an alcoholic parent, each character got affected by their parent differently.

Kim Schmitz story unfolds deeper than a simple story of a geek who becomes a hacker, as Kim Schmitz successfully funds the millionaire company: Megaupload, a “cloud data-storage” with millions of users. While Megaupload stored data at no cost for the users, it also shared several companies’ data without their permission. Since Kim shared copyrighted data without authorization, he was later recognized as a criminal. The kid from Superassassin; however, concludes his superhero life by abandoning his dreams and projects, only to start his villain life by plotting to avenge the death of his mother. As the kid carries on his alcoholic father’s vicious and violent legacy of oppression, it is only a matter of time for the world to witness the rise of a new villain: the kid.
Kim Schmitz, a genius hacker, from “Mega,” and the kid, a superhero lover, from Superassassin, show how both characters respectively fight off their miserable life by choosing a life purpose that meant something for them. “Mega” and Superassassin main characters shared similar family problems, however, their family troubles don’t stop them from wanting a better life. Although Kim Schmitz and the kid take different paths in their life, they both focus on a purpose that gives meaning to their lives, saving them from their alcoholic family, and giving them the opportunity to change their
