Sunset Park Research Paper

Sunset park has an increasing diverse population. People speak different languages, have different ethnicity and races, class and wealth and genders. Sunset park includes free activities in their Recreation Center such as; (for all different races and age groups) Computer Recreation Center, Library, Dance Room, WorkOut Room. We can see many examples of urban diversity in Sunset Park. It is right across the elementary school PS.69. It is surrounded by Park Slope, Greenwood Heights and the Greenwood Cemetery. The photographs are taken after school, which is when the park is crowded the most. You can see the view of Manhattan’s skyline which is beautiful at all times of the day. There is no discrimination, children of different races are playing together. In the photographs we can see elderly men and woman playing cards together. Everyone makes use of the park in different ways. They come for a jog, or to walk their dog/dogs, or bring their children to play. Others play basketball/tennis or cards with their friends. We see people from different age groups. Most elderly people feel more comfortable playing with those who come from the same place as them because it's easier to communicate, while others try to find a way to play together although they don't speak the same language or come from the same background as each other. In one of the other photographs we see a bunch of people sitting in the same area, on the same benches, but apart from each other. They are not communicating with each other, everyone’s lost in their own world but they tolerate each other's differences which is why they are sitting on the same bench.
