In the novel Sunrise Over Fallujah, a man named Robin, also known as Birdy, narrated. I think if the author, Walter Dean Myers, chose a different narrator, the whole book would be told differently. For example, if Jonesy tells the story he would talk more about the Blue’s rather than why he joined the army and how he felt about his family and friends like Birdy did. Some connections I made was how they were in Iraq about a war to get the U.S. weapons back and to change their type of government. I connected this with how the U.S. army is fighting against Iraq right now about ISIS. Another connection I made was throughout the story Birdy was really gun shy. Whenever he was needing to shoot somebody to defend himself, his gun is always on safety. I made this connection because whenever I started shooting guns, I was really apprehensive.
Birdy changes a lot throughout the book because of his friends Marla and Jonesy. They helped form his personality because they were his best friends and were in the same squad together. The three of them built a relationship between each other and went everywhere …show more content…
Birdy took the little boy outside to translate his language into English and then the little boy got shot right in front of Birdy’s eyes. He had never seen someone die in person so it hit him hard. When he first met Marla, he hated her! He thought she was mean and didn’t like the nickname she gave him, but, he started liking her more and more as time rolled on. Jonesy and Birdy became best friends as soon as they met. Jonesy talked to him about the Blue’s and how he would start a business about the Blue’s whenever he got back to America. Grievously, Jonesy didn’t make it out alive due to trying to save a blind boy. Birdy’s attitude changed a lot from the beginning to end because he knew that at any second it could be him to be shot in the head instead of someone
