Sunnybrook Health Science Centre is located in Toronto, Ontario and is currently the largest trauma centre in Canada; their core values are accountability, collaboration, engagement, excellence, and respect. Established in 1948 as a military hospital, Sunnybrook has flourished throughout the years into the successful establishment of the present day, specializing in the treatment of cancer, high-risk maternal and newborn patients, trauma, heart and vascular care, and brain therapies.
Infection Control Plan
As with all hospitals, the health and safety of Sunnybrook patients is a high priority – the primary goal of the infection control plan is to encourage asepsis and decrease the risk of acquiring infections within the hospital. To accomplish this, they have established several procedures.

Infection Control Committee
The safety of all patients, staff, visitors, and volunteers is imperative; consequently, Sunnybrook Hospital has established an Infection Control Committee which is responsible for maintaining the infection control program standards. Frequent meetings are scheduled by this committee to ensure that the collected data is reviewed, policies and procedures are updated, and that improvements are implemented as soon as possible.
When an outbreak occurs, Sunnybrook has formulated a 5-step plan to minimize the negative impact of the infection:
• Optimize staff activity and prioritize the distribution of patient beds.
• Manage procedures which are beneficial but not urgent.
• Ration the ventilator supply effectively.
• Acquire necessary medical
