In my family it is a crime to not got to Sundae School when visiting in Cape Cod. It is unheard of to not stop there at the beginning, middle, and end of your visit.
Sundae School has been open since 1976 when it was created by a traveling family who wanted to make something that would make Cape Cod home for them. This schoolteacher and his family opened up for business on May 26,1976 with daily, fresh, homemade ice cream that still attracts tourists today. It was built on the love and support of family and friends. It remains a place for families throughout the bay of Cape Cod. I always read through the flavors imagining all of them and figuring what kind of flavor I am in the mood for and at the last second I change my mind and go with my trusted mint chocolate chip in a waffle cone (my sister and brother follow suit). When it comes time to order the window opens like a gateway to paradise. Scoopers clank as employees reach down to plop one scoop of ice cream after another on to freshly made cones. You are practically drooling with delight by the time your ice cream is handed over to you. The cone is wrapped in a napkin like holder to keep the ice cream from dripping down onto your hand. Each line and indent in the cone is like a map leading all the way up to the mountain of ice cream. It is sweet and creamy against your tongue while chunks of chocolate give a bite of texture. The mint chocolate chip leaves you with a soft minty taste It is hard not to eat it all at once but to slowly lick it one lick at a time elongating the flavor.
