What is this surprising red color on my skin when I go out in the sun? Ew! What is it?A sunburn is a skin response to ultraviolet radiation, which is also known as UVR. Vulnerability to UVR waves may come from the sun, tanning beds, phototherapy lamps, and arc lamps. Symptoms of sunburn may include:
Pink/red skin
Warm/hot skin
Pain,tenderness, or itching
Swelling
Fluid-filled blisters
Headache,fever,chills,or fatigue.
UVR waves can be so mean to DNA!The main injury of sunburn is UVR waves harming DNA, resulting in swelling and apoptosis (cell death) of skin cells! By contrary, if you spend a short time under the sun or are under mild UVR, it may result in skin pigmentation. a.k.a tanning. This may occur in two different ways, delayed or immediately.
