Advertising Schemes Advertising has become a large topic of debate around the country and has drawn a lot of interest. These advertisements can subconsciously attract someone to an item. This type of product sales is alarming to more and more people around the globe as they grown in their understanding. However, selling a product does not have to be so invasive and malicious. Ads can be used just to entice someone to a product. If the product is not harmful or immoral there is no foul play in tempting someone to buy the product. Sun Chips and VCA Animal Hospital have released ads in magazines. The ads are not promoting bad behavior or marketing a potentially harmful product, which worries many people interested in the dangers of advertising. …show more content…
The VCA ad has a blank white background allowing the dog and cat to stand out in the foreground; also creating the thought bubbles, with statistics inside, to be emphasized because they are blue and orange. The colors of the thought bubbles are extremely important to the effectiveness of the ad. If they were not contrasted with the white, they are more likely to blend in and the data inside would not be read. The data is the foundation of the argument that the VCA is making, so it is essential for the reader to see and interpret it with ease. Sun Chips uses a different strategy with color to try to obtain the same effect—a consumer buying into the product or cause. The Sun Chips ad has a bright red background that blends in with the bag of chips in the corner of the picture. The red is bright enough to grab the reader’s attention in magazines that are full of white backgrounds. Then, it works by subliminally pulling on the consumers typical interpretations of red. Red is the color of fire, which embodies power. Human beings innately desire power and the influence that comes with the power. Red is the color of lust, which is also a form of desire.
