On Friday, December 2nd, I attended the Oasis Lunch and Learn event. It was located in the Oasis room in the Jackie Gaughan Multicultural Center and the event took place from 12:00-1:00pm. I believe the majority of the people who attended were all in a multicultural club, however they did not make it clear which specific club they were all a part of. Approximately 20 students showed up to the event and the group consisted of students of all different races and backgrounds. I’ll admit I felt a little out of place at first, but as I began talking to a few of the individuals who attended, I felt very welcome and ended up having a great experience.…
Weekly Reflection #9: Today, Michael Fenton talked about Desmos and what we should think about when we incorporate technology in the classroom. Reflect on the talk, the activities, and his philosophy of how we should incorporate tech in the classroom. Before Michael Fenton speech, I had hear about something people say, that someday we will live in a world where almost everything will be done through technology and where there will be not a lot of human interaction. Nevertheless, I did not think that this “idea” in one way or another, it was already developing in places such as a school. I believe that after I saw the photos Michael Fenton showed us of how in some schools students are isolated from each other when they are interacting with…
Efficacy is a principal in which teachers base their teachings off. Teachers want their students to succeed, and they need to believe that they can reach every student, regardless of their background or learning style. Pamela Angelle, from the Journal of Educational Administration, writes about the representation of the idea of efficacy. She states, “‘teacher leaders … demonstrate a belief that they can bring about change, a desire to work for change about which they are passionate, and the knowledge and skills to do so’ (DiRanna and Loucks-Horsley, 2001),” (Angelle), proving efficacy comes into play majorly between teacher involvement and student achievement because teachers desire to see that change in their students. Teachers who have greater involvement in their student’s lives will easily be able to instill their passion and knowledge on their students, yielding academic achievement.…
In society, teachers are expected to aim students towards achieving academic success and excellence. The performance of teachers enables students to effectively engage themselves in their learning environments. As a result, students are capable of working interactively and devoting their time to school. The standards that teachers make often determines how well a student performs in class. In general, students who not involved in classroom activities are less driven and more inclined to become disorientated compared to those who are fully committed.…
I knew that college was going to be a great deal of work because of the experience that I had during Summer Bridge. The Summer Bridge schedule was extremely packed with very little free time, which made it difficult to complete assignments. I frequently stayed awake into the late hours of the night in order to finish homework. Although my schedule is currently not as strenuous as it was during Summer Bridge, I still find it difficult to meet the expectations my courses. EDS 50 is the class that I am taking because it is a mandated component of my scholarship and it is also my least stressful class out of the four that I am enrolled in.…
An effective teacher is one who is creative, innovative, and who does not mind going above and beyond to ensure that all of one’s student needs are met. A teacher who uses the Core Teacher Standards will produce students who academic performance proceeds the teacher high…
Freedom Summer, just a mere 10 weeks of the summer of 1964, changed the world, just by changing Mississippi. Reconstruction ended and blacks were no longer slaves, but they continued to be oppressed. Mississippi was the state that kept blacks as slaves without the title. Mississippi had the lowest crime rate, supposedly, but most likely had the most murders of blacks in cold blood. The Mississippi Summer Project dived head first into the volatile violence, subjecting their volunteers to a unique movement with dangers that scared and motivated them to make their movement as successful as they could.…
The role of the student in the RTI change initiative was very limited. The pupils selected for intervention could not choose whether or not to take these classes. Though test scores were consulted, students, themselves, were not consulted during the planning or implementation of the initiative. Students were merely “potential beneficiaries of change” (Fullan, 2006, p. 170). As beneficiaries, these learners were only to be engaged as recipients of the remediation services being offered to them.…
During my experience in an ESL class I saw many of our course objectives come to life. The program was rather small but I witnessed many ways the teacher adjust lessons to meet the needs of students who are still learning english. During my visit I saw many different scaffolding that helped the students during different assignments and lessons. In class we learned how important scaffolding is in classroom with Ells. For a reading assignments the teacher used a tchart so that information can be organized to the learners.…
I did not have a summer job since I was taking two courses and dedicated myself to volunteering full time for 8 hours a day in a research lab for the whole summer. Since I was already guaranteed a position to gain valuable lab experience, I made the decision to accept this placement rather than applying for other work studies or part-time work. During the school year, since I am volunteering part time in the same lab since to work on a future project that is a continuation of the previous research completed over the summer. Thus, due to my continued involvement I did not apply for another work study position.…
I believe that high impact effect instruction is a key factor to student achievement. Methods and models of instruction are always changing and evolving. An effective educational leader will need to be a resource for educators to go to for guidance and support. With my success as a highly effective teacher, I feel that I can now grow in the area of instructional mentoring and support as an educational leader. One strategy that I will be using to improve in this area is using literature as a learning tool for research and guidance.…
Although teaching is a field that is extremely rewarding, it also comes with its share of challenges. These challenges can be overcome, however, if the teacher believes in their students ability to learn, and is able to inspire and motivate them. The teacher can accomplish this task through motivating the students through lessons, tests, and a positive classroom environment. If the teacher is fully committed to their student’s best interests, the classroom will ultimately succeed, even if there are challenges along the way.…
MHS Summer Reading Self Reflection Afrin Mirza When I started to read the book I thought it would be a regular book with sentences and paragraphs, but it turns out that the book came to life in my mind. The book kept me engaged and interested the entire time because it was one of the most relatable books I’ve ever read. The main character Patti Yoon and I have many similarities that I could spot easily.…
“Teaching: Not My Career of Choice” Throughout my education, it has been evident that when I love something, or I am passionate about it, fulfilment is easy to achieve. My belief is that you cannot get upset at your destination if you first did not plan your journey. Nevertheless, it is okay to plan your career path, and have it change later on in the future. Nothing is set in stone, but knowing your direction will benefit.…
