This week reading assignment is a clear indication of who we are and the expectation that God has for His people. God is the lord of the work. Jesus said, “So far My Father works, and I also work” (John 5:17). Work defines human dignity and it does not matter what type of work do we perform (secular or religious); we do it for the Lord. During this week discussion one student, make reference of when we used to close all store on Sunday (for those of us that see Sunday as our Sabbath). I remembered that during that time, you could feel the peace of the day and family member were able to enjoy and appreciate each other. I truly believe that God glorifies

I teach "Introduction to Literature" and "Standard Freshman Composition" courses at Suffolk County Community College. I personally design both of my courses, which adhere to the mission statement of the college. In "Introduction to Literature," my students engage in imaginative works of literature, analyze major literary themes and forms, continue training in effective prose writing skills, and demonstrate maturity and thought and style when deconstructing literary elements such as image, plot, character, theme, and conflict. In "Standard Freshman Composition," I prepare my students to produce quality work that utilizes writing techniques, analyzes reading material, and incorporates research techniques that will aide them in their academic future. The outcomes of this course are for the student to be able to construct a central purpose in their expository work, to have coherent organization, improved writing mechanics, to formulate effective thesis statements that demonstrate complex thought, and to integrate relevant, cited sources into their work.…

During my clinical experience at the Health Department, there were only a few patients that came in either for treatment or to get tested for sexually transmitted diseases. All of the patients appeared to be in high school or a high school graduate with some higher education, but this may not always be the case. Some people may not be at the Tenth grade reading level, but the information from the pamphlet is still valuable to that person. Not only was the pamphlet is rated over the average person’s reading level but it also lacked presentation and appear to be “boring.” The pamphlet may have vital information but if it does not attract people or appear appealing to the eye most people will being instantly uninterested.…

“Three Little Words” is a memoir that shares the story of a girl named Ashley Rhodes-Courter, who spent 10 years in the foster care system. Ashley and her younger brother, Luke, were removed from their birth mother, Lorraine, when Ashley was only 3 years old. She was placed in 14 different homes before she had a permanent address. There was a lot that could be absorbed from Ashley’s story, but one thing that stood out to me is how heavily childhood experiences impacted the lives of many characters in this book. In the late 1960s, John Bowlby proposed his theory of attachment.…

It feels like so long ago when I first began this English course. I can remember being so excited about the class topic, racism and social justice, which I felt that I had a lot of passion for. Little did I know that I would have to gather up even more enthusiasm and passion to be able to continue writing papers about the same topic all semester long. This course has tested my endurance, and at many times my patience, and for that I am thankful because I know in the end, it has made me a better writer. Despite various minor challenges this semester I believe that I have put in the hard work that it takes and I have achieved the course goals and will complete this class feeling fulfilled and accomplished.…

Throughout the entirety of this English 101 course, I have seen my skills as a writer grow. In the beginning of the school year, my writing fell short of my expectations, but as I continued to work and learn the principles of writing, I have written papers that I am proud to say are mine. Among the aspects of my writing I have improved, the best strives are seen within my my counter arguments and overall strength and coherency of my papers. To begin, when looking at a paper I wrote in August on necessity of first drafts, there were large gaps in my elaboration, bringing concerns as to whether I was arguing and proving a point or merely summarizing what Lamott, the author of the article, originally said. When attempting to argue my evidence, I stated,…
