Summer Of The Sea Serpent Analysis

Summer of the Sea Serpent I’ve been reading and writing since kindergarten. We all have. None of us had a choice whether we wanted to learn or not, but some of us excelled more than others. That was me. I was one of the best readers in my class starting when I was in kindergarten, and I think knowing I was actually good at something is what made me like it, among other things of course. Now writing on the other hand, I have never felt confident with my writing skills. I am not one to write these huge, elegant, perfect papers like some of the kids in my English 1010 class I was in this past year. I have been reading ever since I learned how, and I have always loved it. One of my fondest reading memories is when I was in the first or second grade and I had become utterly obsessed with a series, The Magic Treehouse. I am pretty sure I read and reread every single one a thousand times. I had to have one with me at all times just in case our teacher gave us silent reading time. Those books were my favorite because they took me to another world. I …show more content…
I used to love writing stories when I was younger. I recall being in first grade and having a writer’s workshop every Wednesday and Friday. Those were my favorite days throughout my first grade year. I wrote stories about everything! I remember a couple; I had one on the big cats of Africa, I had a series I made up and the character names were Casey, Alex, and Jack, and I also wrote a book about rainbows and leprechauns. After we finished a chapter, everyone in the class would have to have the spelling and punctuation checked by our teacher Mrs. Berosie. If you did a good job and didn’t have more than ten mistakes, then you got a handful of red hots (the little red cinnamon candies). Those quickly became my favorite candy and I would try to finish chapters and start new books as soon as I could just to get more candy. That’s when writing was

Since I absolutely hated reading I would only read the first two pages and if I wasn 't interested then I would act like I was reading then in a week I would go get a new book. The only books I ever remember liking were, Face by Benjamin Zephaniah and The Outsiders by S.E Hinton. I remember I really liked The Outsiders so I even read it twice. We also had a group reading assignment and we would have tests every week about the book and I did pretty good with this because we would read together in class…

When I was little I loved being read this one book called Winnie The Pooh. Every night if I was not read a book I would sit in my bed and wait for someone to come in. When my little sister Lizzie was born I would sneak into her room and read her books and she would stare at me like I was showing her ice cream. When I would take a shower she would be sitting outside the shower and reading in her own little language. Writing was never my favorite thing when I was little.…

Imagine a young girl, about three year’s old sitting in her wooden rocking chair surrounded by picture books. They are sprawled all over the floor, and here she sits and “reads” aloud to her stuffed animals. But, she doesn’t know how to read, so she makes the story up based on the pictures she sees in the book. Now imagine the same young girl, now she is five years old. She sits on a chair with crayons of every color, coloring books, and paper spread across the kitchen table.…

I always read as a kid. I was the small boy who plowed through books day and night, my mom scrambling to and from the library just to keep up with me. The only thing fixated on my mind was reading a new book and being totally captivated by the plot. Since then, I read less and less, sometimes going months without finishing a book. I feel sad that I spend less and less days staying up to midnight just to read one ... more … page.…

Reading can provide you with an escape from the real world while gaining knowledge and learning new things. Writing can also give you an escape because you can let everything that you 're feeling out and put it on paper. I would make her read it over and over again until I fell asleep. I was so heart-broken when my mom said that they had “accidently” sold it in a garage sale we had one day but that book was my first actual memory that helped me and made me like books. Going into Kindergarten I was excited because I was never really around kids my age and I wanted to meet new people and…

As I grew older, I started to dislike reading because it just seemed boring to me to read the books or novels we had to read in school. Although, I did enjoy to read my own personal books that I checked out from the library, reading was just something I didn’t have much interest for as I did for writing. I greatly enjoyed writing. Most of the writing I have done, whether it be academic or informal, has always had a touch of a personal experience and emotion. I have loved the feeling of calculating thoughts and getting them down on paper.…

My mom always says, “readers are leaders”. You don't need to be valedictorian or captain. You simply need to make your own discoveries, maintain your values and not take a back seat in this ride called life. These are attributes I believe I possess. By looking back at my writing experiences, I can tell that writing does not come naturally to me and find it to be a real challenge. I may think I did well while writing but in reality I did horrible. It takes me a while to write a paper then other people and there tends to be plenty of problems that try to slow me down. One of the hardest problems I have while writing is trying to find the right words to say. Every time I write I always take longer than anyone else because I always second guess what I just wrote and have to rewrite what I am trying to say.…
