Summer Internship Essay

As spring semester draws to a close each year, college kids begin to plan for their long summer months off. For some, this may be booking airfare to the Caribbean to spend a week lying on the beach, but for others this may be cleaning up resumes, filling out applications, and digging out your best suit to begin the search for a summer internship opportunity. Although this could lead to beginning a whole new life halfway across the country for 3 months, the experience is worth it in the end. Summer internships provide students with an invaluable educational opportunity while receiving college credit, gaining experiences within their field of study, and forming professional contacts.

Networking is a huge part when it comes to the professional world, and getting a name out there will be a major benefit after graduation. For example, a college student, Brittney Harris, who interned at NBC, CBS, and Kurtis productions in Chicago explains how her work in one internship lead to a part-time paid position with the same company while she was still in school. Harris says, “the experience you gain is indescribable…. It’s also a great way to network. I have heard of interns eventually getting hired on to staff after they have completed college” (Halperin 589). This shows that in many cases, having an internship almost guarantees a job offering after graduation. However, some people may argue against this statement with the point that internships could potentially ruin opportunity in the professional world if a student makes a mistake while working, but employers have internships for the specific intent of students making mistakes. It is better for the students to learn from their mistakes during an internship when they are under supervision rather than when they are placed on their own in the field.
Summer internships provide students with an invaluable educational opportunity while receiving college credit, getting different experiences within their field of study, and forming professional contacts. This is a major learning opportunity for students to essentially be in the “real world” before they are actually placed on their own after

I’ve been shown with this experience how important it is for me to keep working at my people skill, that my ability to efficiently communicate is the bases for success with a sales job like selling flooring or lighting fixtures. This internship has helped me grow as a person and gain confidence. My favorite part of my internship was when Cozette and I were working with a client on a new construction job. The client brought in a completed floor plan, and came to select finishes and cabinetry. As we were walking through the floor plan we discussed the layouts of the bathrooms and kitchen.…

In my college career which has been around 4 years now, these first two weeks are the first of any trimester or semester that instead of being enrolled in classes, I’m enrolled in an internship. This is definitely a change from the norm but at the same time it is exciting as well. It gives me the opportunity to use or observe some of the material that I have learned so far in my classes at Johnson & Wales in a real scenario. This internship allows me as well to gain much needed additional experience in the sports and athletics industry and will give me a more holistic view of the athletic program. It will allow me to see many different roles and see from various projects what parts of athletics I like or dislike since I am overall still open for the future to a variety of roles in the sports industry…

An internship is normally a work task a student completes after a series of classes to gain a degree in a particular field they think they’ll love, whether they still love it after they’ve completed that journey is based upon a multitude of criteria. Luckily, I have found that I quite enjoy fashion and working in retail throughout this internship at Dress Barn. Occasionally students find that what they thought they were getting into, is actually completely different than what they expected. Especially when reading about a profession on paper versus seeing it up closer in real life. When I started college, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to study or achieve with my life.…

Intern Nation by author Ross Perlin analyzes the current state of internships in astoundingly immensedetail. In specific, Perlin focuses on the variety of internships, including “the good, the bad, and the ugly; the paid and the unpaid; the ostensibly academic and the completely untethered; part-time internships lasting a few weeks and full-time ones last a year” (XVI). These elements are described through first-hand accounts; for example, the interns at Disney World and the government interns on Capitol Hills. These elements are also described through in-depth investigation; for example, the 18 percent of interns who work without pay or the evidence of companies and government organizations firing full-time paid staff and replacing them with…

Anyone who is entering into the workplace is required to be enrolled in a training exercise course to develop their skills on a job. The skills needed are taught or learned through experience hence why, having the opportunity to intern is a privilege; yes, everyone will have not the same experience but it will allow the intern to adapt to their new working environment and gain merely through hands on experience (Sweitzer & King, 2013). The intern’s role varies but inveterately their role in any company is to laisse with supervisor and other interns and staffs to fulfill the required task. During this time, the intern will have the opportunity to work along and with other clients underneath the supervisor’s guidance. As an intern, one my wonder…

I have found that, along with being integrated with graduate recruitment, work experience increases the employability of interns by improving their networking and professional skills, putting them in an advantageous position in the competitive graduate market. However, the value of these benefits depends on the career choice of the individual but overall it should remain beneficial, unless it is unpaid and not followed by a job offer, in which case the benefits are greatly diminished. Despite this, I believe work experience would be beneficial to an individual’s future career based on their improved position in the graduate job market, no matter what career they choose, and increased job satisfaction. Looking into the future, with the number of graduates growing each year, it seems inevitable that the value of work experience will continue to rise relative to that of a degree, indicating that work experience will become increasingly beneficial when competing in the graduate job market. Currently, however, academic programmes are regarded superior due to the lack of research into the effectiveness of internships which diminishes the legitimacy of such programmes.…

And this was what drove me to fly 8,500 miles from the Pearl of the Orient to the Land of the Free.…

Internships have been a great way of getting connected with a job a person might apply for in the future. Internships can also save ones time by experimenting in different career fields and gain a lot of experience from working there. According to a natural survey by vault up to 84% of students planned to complete at least one internship before graduating and some will require to do internships to receive college credit. There is a lot of debate on if internships should pay students or not pay students. Internships should pay people because it will help students with lower income, won’t leave employees exploited, and saves students from sacrificing time.…

In the beginning of the semester, I would admit I was nervous to start my internship with the Divisional Clerks office. The importance of an internship experience cannot be overstated. Today, employers favor prospective employees who have done not only one internship but multiple internships. A college education will serve to propel a graduate into a profession by conferring a degree, which demonstrates an academic proficiency in various theoretical and practical examples of ways that a job might be performed. An internship makes the classroom’s abstract theories and learned examples concrete by placing the student in a real life work situation with real live co-workers performing actual professional tasks, which the job encompasses. Therefore, the payoff of an unpaid internship is that you will gain invaluable professional experience, where you might…
