Summer is full of excitement and activities. For me, the days of summer in Brooklyn from June to August are disgusting and suffocating. Every day, there is the ongoing battle against the summer heat. As a result, people continuously perspire and try to catch their breath. They feel lethargic and don’t want to do anything. Some prefer to settle back at home where there’s AC. Others want to take this opportunity to go on vacation or experience new activities.
As I head out for work in the morning, the first thing that I see is the sun. It shines heavily in the sky. It shows off its radiance like a child trying to gain attention. It burns my eyes so much that I have to block the sun with my hands. I already feel the summer heat outside. It comes at you like when get dust thrown in your face. That is what it feels like. The sunlight sneaks through the gaps of the branches and find its way to shine on me. It’s like a game of hide and sneak. Wherever I go, the sun would find me. In the other side of the park, I saw some elderly people fanning themselves to keep cool. There were a group of elderly people doing stretching exercises for warms up. In the play area, the kids were racing each other to the tree. The winner sprinted toward the goal like the Flash. Compared him to the other kids, they had the speed of the tortoise. I heard them bickering and giggling. There were two other kids playing with each other. The ferocious kid chased after the cowardly kid around the slides. It was like a predator chasing after its prey. In the handball courts, there were teenagers who were playing handball. They dash to the ball and smack it with their hand with all their might. I could hear the sounds of the ball being smacked against the concrete wall. SMACK, SMACK, SMACK. Those sounds kept on repeating in a cycle. I get exhausted from watching
